Molson Canadian beer ain't half bad neither... :)

...and it is the bad half ya remember and that makes ya puke.

We've come far in our beers since the days that Molson was king. They tend to be getting darker now.

What I have always been unable to find.

Dark beers in Thailand.

NOT stout, just good full flavoured dark beer.

German micro brewery in Chiang mai. :)

an'...lets talk about the cheese from the Anderson Valley east of Vancouver...that mature cheddar cannot be beat.

(tutsi is on the tramp and broke up in Fort St James and is admiring the cheddar in the cool box at the local store...unable to resist he palms a chunk and couldn't then meet the unsuspecting eye of the kindly middle aged lady that ran the place when he absconded...

later after working inna sawmill up outta Mackenzie and flush with his wages he sends the price of the cheese and extra with a tear stained note to the Fort St James post office admitting his crime and begging forgiveness...

oh, de pain ob bein' tutsiwarrior :) )

from dodging the mess on the pavement while walkin' to the bus stop in Derby city center on a Monday morning I'd say that all of the above items are consumed and regurgitated in equal amounts... :D

Well, that at least shows that the culinary diversity of the UK is improving. :D

And apart from Boiled Moose balls, what exactly are the culinary delights that Canada can offer to the world :D

Come on, Moose Balls are only for the elite...even the yanks know that :)

Us proletarians are stuck with boatloads of fresh salmon, lobster, prawns, and some of the best beef in the world (if it wern't for the bloody kiwis).

Yeah but those are ingredients Vic, name me a famous Canadian dish, cos i can't think of any :D

When you have fresh lobster and tender sirloin you don't mess it up with mushy peas. :)

Really though, that's pretty much what our food is, it's basic, uncomplicated, and plentiful. We have great seafood, cheap meats that are high quality, and more fresh fruit and veggies than we can eat. Add in some of the best beers in the world, and decent wines, you can't beat it. :D

Dishes from Canada?

Ginger Beef

Tortieres

Montreal Smoked Beef

Poutine

Nanaimo Bars

Cod Cakes

Baked Stuffed Lobster

Saskatoon Pie

Partridge Berry Cake

Toutons

Bangbellies

Won't make a huge list. We've also had some influential if less than prestigious culinary inventions:

Instant mashed potatoes.

Chinese smörgåsbord.

Packaged macaroni & cheese.

How about King Crab or:

Canadian Surf 'n Turf:

Wild Chinook Salmon with Mango Salsa and Wild Venison Steaks with a Red Wine, Blueberry, Chocolate Sauce

Canada has great fresh sea food and other native products.

Englands great dishes seem to be Indian curry, Lebanese kebabs or bread and butter pudding.

Maybe with some Black Pudding and Kidneys too...

I don't do KFC anymore here since they stopped using trans fats. I didn't know until then how delicious trans fats were. Now I only eat KFC in Thailand.

Yes, I also enjoy being served by fat trans at KFC.

wha...??? canadian bacon is what they call english style bacon in the US...thai bacon is a pathetic attempt to duplicate american bacon; yew can actually wring the water outta packet of thai bacon...

BLTs made with american style bacon are superior but ye cant get american style bacon many places in the UK (I believe it's called 'crispy bacon'...)

tutsi is now visiting in the UK from SAUDI and had two bacon sarneys day before yesterday, a pork roast for sunday lunch and is now preparing to engage a packet of Waitrose cumberland sausages in a sausage sandwich supreme...gotta be quick as the plane back t'Jeddah leaves tomorrow p.m.... :)

MrBoJ is still in Saudi and missing bacon like mad (as well as Boddington's) :D

Tutsi, did you hear about the bombing in Jeddah last friday ? Failed attempt on Prince Naaif (i think).

Fridays were always entertaining in Jeddah - quick visit to Headchoppers Square before noonday prayers - game of rugby in the afternoon - resuscitate with a few home-brews in the evening.

I was a warden in my time in Jedda - also in the BBG (British Businessmen's Group) and in the Engineering Workshop Group - all had a few meetings a year in the Consulate

Always som Boddington's available. But never any proper beers like Marston Pedigree, Theakstone's Old Peculiar or similar. So we sufferd the indignity of drinking the only product to come out of Manchester without a public health warning on it.

You should be lashed yourself for saying that Humph :)

I think that American style bacon is called streaky bacon in the UK.

yeah...that's right, 'streaky bacon' it is; I gets my streakez and crispez mixed up now that I've not lived in these parts for 10 years...

MrBoJ, I read about the bombing on the BBC (I can watch the bloomin' live news broadcast here in Brighton but old habits die hard...). I'm bringin' back a suspicious looking empty guitar case (the instrument resides in Suphanburi, exposed to the humidity and hopefully not yet damaged) and subversive printed material like 'Middlemarch' and 'Anna Karenina' so I'll probably get strip searched at the airport in Jeddah by anal type arabs deranged by hunger and thirst during ramadan... :D

Nah Tutsi, you'll be fine. At the moment they can't seem to be ar5ed to do anything. The security guards (National Guard) where I work, don't even bother to get out of their hut at the moment. Any other time, they would scrutinise your ID/Pass etc and any papers with a fine tooth comb. And we're only at the start of Ramadan, they will get even lazier next week :)

It's the all-night parties that does it.

And in Jeddah - the nightly drive to Mecca, so that you're forgiven all your sins. So sin again and do the drive again.

Happens two or three times a week during Ram-a-Dan, if I remember right.

Can't but jaffa cakes (or I haven't found any) here in Saudi. They do a similar thing but cost over £2 a packet :)

York. You must go to York sbk :D It's loverley

A Lancastrian see's the light and tells people to visit Yorkshire, the best county in the land..... :D:D
