did you see that report (Nation)yesterday from the university profs calling for some answers over the worry that half BKK will be under water in 20 years time due to global warming? looks like the new airport and subway might have a short lifespan .

thats the lifespan of the DonMuang airport so far . not a long time ..

hey ,how will you sell your apartment by the river in 20 years time ??

When I first came to Bangkok in the late seventies, we drove through fairly wide, uncrowded roads from the airport - lily ponds along the edges.

What construction activities I saw were being carried out in caisson-type methods, sheet-piles and pumps. The ground-water table was at the level of the surface of the land.

Now, due to the large population, excessive pumping of ground water and the amount of construction that has taken place in thirty years, the water table has disappeared down to over 10m below ground level in most places. It is not likely to return quickly in Bangkok.

However Cobra Swamp (Suvarnabhumee) is still at zero level and they are having problems holding the runways down. :o:D So maybe that will be the hub for float planes before long.
