Just read these are launching..

Speculative prices are 82 on the KLX and 85 on the d-tracker..

For those that like the KSR but thought it was too dinky.. Might make a fun little stunt bike / second bike.. Sure it will be 12 or so hp but it will be light and fun.. Maybe some hop ups.

Any word ??

Be very interesting to see if they actually appear in the showrooms,if they do it seems kawasaki have another niche in thailand bike sales as there is NO competition,

Expect some hard competition coming up.

Friend of mine spoke with the main person at Suzuki in Bangkok, and they are definitely planning to bring in (or assemble locally) the enduro DRZ model, both in 250 and 400CC versions.

They are trying to be able to price the 400 at the 250,000 Baht mark.

And just like the KLX you can easily make it either in enduro or supermoto version.

The price of the 125cc's is interesting, as some people expect that the 80 to 90,000 Baht range is where the budget 250cc's will be positioned...

LLOS

Any news on the specs of the bikes in terms of size? just curious because doesnt the KLX 250 come in 2 sizes? Would be good to see a comparison between the KSR and the 125, any news on the launch date?

Nope only it was shown in a Kwaker dealer (Chiang Mai) and was stated that it will be available 'in weeks'..

All very speculative.. Perhaps those of you with Rama 9 kwaker contacts can follow up.

Personally I dont see a 80 - 95k baht 125 and a 250 - 400cc drz at perhaps 250k baht in much competition to each other.. While the DRZ is no doubt superior I think the 125 would sell like hot cakes, building on the KSR brand loyalty thing I have said about before... If they can hop up ksr's with 170 and 190cc engines and turn an 8hp into a 22hp I could see a hotted up version of this being fun at toytown money. I assume this isnt a 'full size' bike but a 3/4 size between the mini bike ksr and the full size d-trackers.. Which with my size would be about the same as a Thai guy on the ksr.

We cant forget that whatever we would like the market they need to please are Thais, of all affordability levels.. And this to me looks like another kwaker win of an idea.

Hope so too. I have a KSR at the moment, but would love something a bit bigger, 125 would be perfect, imagine the mods for it.

Size wise it would do me....heres hoping.

Was more thinking in general "bigger then usual" bikes. Kawasaki started it all of with their KLX/D-tracker and the Ninja/ER6 bikes.

They were the first seriously marketing this type of bike in Thailand (at affordable price/quality level), and now it looks like the others will be following soon.

And I (maybe too hopeful :) ) think that if Kwaker starts with the smaller 125 cc bikes, the others will this pick up faster at the potential and offer stuff officially for sale...

...Hope the 125cc will not be "powerfully crappy" as the stock 250cc is, even gor 85k!

Add new ECU 8000...add new exhaust 15000...add news filters4000...add this...add that Pffff!!!

And throw into the mix the 200cc Chinese made Lifan coming soon at 56,000 baht, maybe the next Platinum, but maybe not....

It's rumored Lifan's thinking about selling their 250cc machine here as well:

Let's hope the War of the Worlds mirrors can be removed.

Well I happened to bump into a buddy who uses a KLX140 as a bush basher.. Its small (not as small as the KSR) but light and hes put a new pipe and carbs on it, tweaked the suspension for a farang load, and reckons its a blast. Now its not stock it can lift the front and power slide cornering which it couldnt stock. Its not a bike for touring but we have lots of goat trails and rubber trapper tracks in the hills and its suited to that. Consider it like a nova / dash conversion bush basher.

So seeing his machine on the back of his pickup I am absolutely sure that this is the same frame, dimensions, and engine basics.. The size and crankcase covers, header pipe etc etc on the 125 is lifted from the 140. So the good news is that this is a 'ksr for big people' mid size that I have wondered why they were not selling.

On the down side is the 125 is going to be an FI bike, so to pass the emissions they have had to use a 125 spec presumably from the euro regions where 125 is a learner / age class. Now I consider that a down side as I dont know how easy it will be tune these and tinker with them in the same way they are with ksr's.. I also discover they make a klx150 and 150R which would provide easy engine swap parts to tinker with but again, not sure how the FI tweaking will work compared to carb tweaking.

Anyway another interesting one from kwaker and another segment they are doing with no competition.

Monty, are you sure about the price point? THB 250,000 for a Suzuki 400 enduro, with a Sachs coming near 100 k and the D/Tracker 250 cc 100 k less?

The whole point should be to get competitive prices! 250 k sounds way too high for me :)

Well its true ,available later this month ,orders now being taken 85.000 ,looks a bit budget to me, old air cooled 125, chromed/tin wheels, although 21+18 ok for off road, that it wont pull granny off the pot wont matter too much as most will stay on the road i feel, :)

I saw one of these in Indo recently, nice looking bike, though a bit small and underpowered for a farang I would think, I think it would struggle up hills. For the money I think you could get a very good XR250 with a green book.

As for being air cooled, that's fine, one less thing to worry about. Hopefully the will sell well and other companies will follow suit.

The KLX looks nice. I was wondering the whole time, why Kawasaki doesn´t bring the 140cc KLX with number.

What´s about the Zongshen Ryuka 150cc, which I´ve seen here in CNX. 69800 TB sound a good offer and the bikes looks good an modern. Zongshen is also a very big company, how´s the quality?

Posted

The Kawasaki KLX125 and D-Tracker 125 are will not be introduced in Thailand, they purely European models - for the 125cc learning limitations - the price in Europe is similar what we in Thailand pay for a KLX/D-Tracker 250cc. So with import taxes, the bikes are not made in Thailand... you end up with something very special what looks like the Kawasaki 250cc models but performs like a 125cc, while costing twice the price... how cool is that???

Posted

Zongshen is a Chinese company, so better not ask the question on this board. But Zongshen makes engine parts for Harley-Davidson, Buell (R.I.P) and many other motorcycle manufacturers who are highly-regarded in the West as being high quality... If this quality is standard for what they produce under there own name... you have a good ride...

What are the prices? Is it lower then the 70,000 or 74,000 Baht we pay for the Kawasaki KLX140 or KLX140L, which is a super hot sell in many countries. (The KLX140 is actual made in Thailand)????? Or is it more like 3,300 Euro which would be about 151,000 Baht without import tax and duties...

Yes, that's what I was thinking. It's Ninja 650 money.
