Hi all,

I want to purchase my own bike in Thailand. I didn't know you could until recently. Is there any restriction on purchasing one for Farang based on visa? I currently have a 1 year ED visa (multi entry).

Any help appreciated.

You will have no problems buying a bike on your ED visa.

Goto your local Thai immigration office and get a "Certificate of Residence" about 500bht. You will need your home rental agreement or letter from the landlord with photocopies of your passport and Visa pages and two photos of you.

Then register the bike with the local licensing centre, using Certificate of residence, more passport photocopies, the bike green book, the bike and about 450bht

That is all you need to buy a motorcycle in Thailand, I registered mine last week.

Don't forget to pick up a Thai license for motorcycles, easy and fun to do - the how to is posted at the beginning of the Thai Motor forum group.

That's all very well if you like paying through the nose for a piece of paper. UK Embassy charge around 2000 Baht to get out of bed!!
