Although I said I hoped Honduras to beat Spain, I have to admit that those whiners and divers were full value for their 2 - zip win. It could have been much more... like 5 or 6 zip. The guy who scored both goals for Spain on beautiful strikes missed a penalty kick... and couldn't believe it himself.

Ian, the Italians are the divers, Portugets are the complainers, English are the excusers, Spanish are the Whingers and the French are the Comedic.

You went to the wrong places.

This video shows the preparation for Euro 2004, just to give you an idea of the skills shown by our Italian friends.

(for avoidance of confusion - this is a joke!)

Glad to see the whining French out of it. At least Mexico and Uruguay made a match of it and both went for the win. Uruguay won by a close margin 1 - zip. At least South Africa went out with some dignity beating the French 2 - 1. Uruguay and Mexico go through to the final 16 in the knock out stage.

Not sure why it it's still 0 - 0 between Argentina and Greece at half time. Argentina should have saltied it away by now. And, the Greek player almost had a breakaway to shock the Argentinians. He missed the far post by a narrow margin.

Paste only pasted a part of article... grrrrrr

Has happened before.

Wozzup with new changes, pzzzzn me orf.???????

Glad to see the Brits and the Yanks slip through to the final 16 this morning, but what a contrast in style. The Americans did it in style, and the low score did not describe the game. They had another goal called back by a questionable call and barely missed on a few other chances. The Brits barely got the job done and their future doesn't look very bright for going much further.

Now I am by no means a fan of this current England set up, but they hit the woodwork, forced finger tip saves, and generally should have won by three. The USA have played very well, but winning by a goal deep into extra time, can hardly be described as doing it in style. Good news for them is that by coming top ( again well done ) they will avoid all the big teams in the run to the cup. Could be USA's year to make a good showing ( they certainly wont win it ).

Actually, the US had a goal nullified at the 20 minute mark where instant replays showed it was a valid goal. Just like in the previous game a valid goal by the US team was erroneously overturned.

From what I read, the officiating across the board is horrendous. I guess it was OK in the past where technology didn't allow viewers to see officiating mistakes, but now its laid out for everyone to see within seconds. If viewers can see within seconds what officials don't see, perhaps it is time to allow officials access to instant video as well. They can quickly right their wrongs, assuming the integrity of the game is important to them.

Great to see a minnow eat a big fish... Slovakia knocked off the whinging, whining, diving Italians 3 - 2 in a game that turned exciting. That knocks Italy out of the tourney along with New Zealand. At least the Kiwis were not expected to advance and they didn't lose a game. Of course, they didn't win a game either.

Every point was a win for the Kiwis Ian. All credit to the manager and team and unlucky not to progress...just lacking a decent couple of strikers unfortunately. They had a fine World Cup this time round.

Denmark Teamtalk:

Give away some fouls if you want, the Japanese can't shoot for toffee

Agree with this. Some of Europe's finest looked like they couldn't be arsed. Not the Kiwis, fought til the end good on em.

Yep, the Kiwis did well. Just work on using your feet next time around. Diving on the ball before it's crossed the line will not give you 6 points.

Japan showed how sportsmanship SHOULD be played in their match with Denmark yesterday. The Japanese don't take diving lessons. Keisuke Honda made a brilliant strike on a free kick that started the scoring. He was also well deserving the man of the match with his continual attacks and brilliant play. Both teams played to win and it was an end to end contest. That puts Japan through to the final 16 for the first time on foreign soil. Denmark have nothing to be ashamed of.; they had many opportunities and carried most of the play, but could only put it in the net once.

Once more new TV will not allow paste.

What is happening?

For those of you who thought they were new....................

They've been annoying for centuries

Start of the knockout stage. Two good games today with lots of action but not a lot of scoring. Uruguay knocked off South Korea and Ghana beat the USA. Both losing teams can hold their heads high for giving it a valient effort. Both games could have gone either way and chances were missed that possibly should have been goals.

Well, with England, USA, Australia and NZ all out of the WC, the only English-speaking country left in is Ghana.

So come on you boys !!!

I don't want to TALK about it. I just want to WATCH it. That was the trouble with the Brits... too much whining and not enough playing. And yesterday, Slovakia talked themselves out of a tie with the Netherlands. While the Slovakians were standing around complaining to the referee about a phantom call, the Netherlands took off on a fast break and scored on the unsupported Slovakian goalie. It proved to be the winning goal.

Who cares if the Ghanians speak English?

The women ain't half bad, either. Not sure why, but Portugese ancestory seems to have produced a lot of attractive people. My second ex was Portugese and she was a knockout at 20. She's still very attractive at 60, and her 38 year old daughter is just the same.

Even though Portugal had their chances, it was Spain that carried the game entirely with their tic-tac-toe passes and deserved the win. The score could have been, and should have been much worse for Portugal. The Portugese team sat back defending and let the Spaniards have the ball. Portugese mid-fielders couldn't find Ronaldo with a road map when they did get possession. By comparison, the Spaniards were contantly running to space and picking their openings. The difference in number of clean shots on goal showed a clear difference in the game.

Judging by what I saw today, I would have to believe that Spain should beat Paraguay. Of course, nothing is certain in soccer
