Been away for 5 months I have found yesterday that my condo flat has big spot/areas with fungus covered. Sofa of imitation leather, some spots on mattresses, most clothing (even machine-washed before!) in wardrobe, inside refrigerator (turned off, of course!), leather shoes, sheets etc. Some spots on the walls and edges of furniture. This is not "heavy fungus", it's almost invisible and very tiny and short. It has yellow, white and grey colours in dependence on surface it growing .

Flat is abt 100 m2, it was closed and no ventilation (key?). How to handle it?

Of course, we will wipe it off now, but what to do when we go out again for the months?

I wonder if covering your furniture with poly-cotton sheets would have helped?

Fungi love dark and humid environment.

Is your property near the sea?

I would allow as much sunlight into the unit as possible. If floor cover is timber, you will need to protect it from drying under direct sunlight.

Refrigerator should be left on with the thermostat set to 1 and filled with bottles of water to maintain coldness.

Wipe/mop surfaces under shade with water mixed with Dettol to slow fungi growth.

If possible, leave some small windows (in bathroom?) opened to allow some ventilation.

I am not exactly sure what happened in our condo unit but it was very strange.

We had some liquid pump soap dispensers with chrome plated pumps, and the bath plugs are also chrome.

We sort of concluded that when we left the place for a while we would open the plugs. Bad idea the baths were full of small insects (all dead) on our return, and there must have been some soap residue on the plugs themselves because something ate the chrome on the pump dispensers and tarnished the plugs. You would not have thought chrome was particularly appealing would you?

Plugs and pump dispensers now thoroughly washed and dried before leaving, and plugs now back in the baths and the rooms are now in darkness, blinds pulled.

Next visit no further problems.

Sounds like there has been some dampness already in the condo, then lack of any air flow has worsened the situation.

Was the fridge door left open? It should be.

Make sure there is some sort of ventilation and leave a fan on slow.

Make sure it's ventilated.

I leave a fan on slow. Open doors and wardrobes. For 100m2 use enough fans to give air movement thoughout.

maybe fans are enough but a/c left on will ensure that the air is kept dry.
