Or Michael Dawson..

dawson's a good stopper, think he lacks a wee bit of pace though. ironic now that spurs have probably england's two best centrebacks in woodgate and king but they're both made of balsa wood.

So does Terry Stevie, hugely..

I wouldn't play Terry & Dawson, that would be suicidal, but i'd play Ferdinand & Dawson for example..

& Nev you say he's World Class on his day, that day hasn't been once this Season though aye ??

Dawson/King with Ferdinand and Terry as back up....you know it makes sense. :)

I expect there'd be more sense coming out of Monsieur Redknapp's Mouth if he done a speech on " How to pay your Taxes correctly.. "

Capello must be a happy man after last nights game. King must go surely and the centre back problem is sorted. He's played three games in eleven days without a problem :)

I doubt he will change either but, with King's current form (and remaining fit) i would have thought there is a strong case for him to start, because he's playing better than either of them.

He is a pragmatic coach who picks form players.

I agree & i still think he could be first choice Center Half ( King ) & still be used sparingly, i honestly don't think he needs to be used in the Group Games, or maybe just the USA Game as that will be the toughest, the opener etc but for the second 2, rest him..

Dawson was immenses again last nigth too however playing alongside King helps him..

By his own admission Dawson feels much more assured when King is playing. He is an excellent pro but he is limited, and not of the same calibre. Mindyou when i hear some of the names being banded round i think he atleast be on the call up list

Better take Barry off your list Singer and while you are at it get rid of Gerrard and Carrick as neither of them has any kind of form over the last few months.

I'm sticking with what i said about using Barry as cover for LB, earlier in the Thread..

Allows other more attacking Players this way but that would be my 23, don't think it would be too far off Capello's either but he will probably take another LB, you're right..

Did you not see the news Singer, Barry is a major doubt due to injury.

I'm pretty much in agreement with you although i think i'd put Dawson in instead of Jagielka ad i'd like to find a place for Zamora. He has been doing the business in their europa campaign. No guesses Singhy for who would get the chop :D

Rooney and Crouch are his picks for up front no doubt about that. The rest are either poor or untested at international level. Defoe would have been an easy pick in January but he's just been poor since then.

Gerrard is a great player and deserves his place simply due to the experience he brings to the squad. Carrick is a question mark but I still say Capello should give Scholes a call. He's been in great form lately.

That's true, he deserves to be in the squad. What he doesn't deserve is to be in the starting eleven. I fear he will be.

Even as a United and a Scholes fan, i think taking him to the World Cup would be a sign of desperation. I also don't think he would accept, even if asked.

Why desperation. He's still a better player than Carrick and Beckham would have been on the plane if not for injury. But you're right he would likely say no.

Gerard does NOT deserve his place due to his experience. However i've yet to hear of a better choice put forward by his detactors.

Scholes is not an option. He's an veteran premier league squad player who would'nt accept the call anyway.

Oh pardon me carmine I should have realised England are blessed with a wealth of top midfielders playing at the best clubs in Europe.

Other countries will scratch their heads in wonder at the ageist attitudes here in fact the Italians would have no problem with playing a veteran as long as he was the best choice. The youngsters simply aint good enough that's why no one can suggest an alternative to Gerrard.

I don't think the fact that Beckham would have been on the plane if not for injury proves very much, apart from the fact that we are a bit desperate.

In his day Scholes was a better player than Carrick no doubt, but Scholes is at the tail-end of his career now and Carrick is in his prime - or at least should be!

I've always been a fan of Scholes, but come on, he's at the end of a long illustrious career, a long season, he's already looking tired, his tackling is now atrocious and you are seriously suggesting he should be in the England midfield. What he would bring to the game is a lot of red/yellow cards :D

Beckham has nothing to do with the issue. Obviously he's injured but he is still the best dead ball specialist and his crossing is way better than the others.

To me Carrick is the obvious choice.

Fair point regarding his tackling ability but hes a far better passing game and he reads the game well. Carrick is just wooden by comparison.

The honest answer is i'm not sure Stevie. A number of the players i haven't really seen play recently with my own eyes, so my selection would be based to some extent on what i had heard / read, which i think makes it a bit worthless.

I have however seen Gerrard play quite a bit, and think he has been really flat, added to which i have never been impressed with him and Lampard as a partnership - for whatever reason, doesn't work for me. When Barry was introduced, it really seemed to click much better.

fair enough. FWIW i think capello's only played gerrard and lampard as a middle two once and yet again it didn't really work. capello, like benitez, knows that gerrard's best position is further forward in a three behind a lone front man. i expect the midfield two to be lampard and barry (if fit) with gerrard, rooney and one other behind heskey.

gerrard's form hasn't been brilliant this season but then he needs an operation and has had 11 heavy duty painkilling injections this season. he does play well with rooney for england though.

Cant see that Stevie, Rooney playing attacking mid when hes played up front all season for man u and is the only decent forward we have, Heskey, your having a laugh, and no wide players :D .

I know i'm a bit bias :) but Huddlestone for Carrick for me and can play centre back.
