Howdy

Im taking the Mrs out for the day tommorow and I am dreading the usual conversation..... "What shall we do? Any ideas? Nothing?"

I think I have done the lot over the years. Tiger Temple, waterfalls, local temples, Ratchaburi floating market, temples in Supanburi, mooching around factory outlets, film studio at Army Base, safari park etc etc, et al. Done them all lots of times and there is just nothing to do in the way of small road trips any more.

We went to Chi Nat the other week just because we hadnt been there. It was the usual <deleted>... Long drive to random Thai town, look at a temple, go home.

Is the Dam worth a visit? What happens when you get there? You just sort of, look at the dam and then go home?

Im bored. Properly bored. Any ideas???

I live in Kanchanaburi by the way. Have a car.

Erawan National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติเอราวัณ)

Sai Yok National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติไทรโยค)

Khuean Srinagarindra National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์) the Caves there in: Interesting tourist attractions include Tham Sawan (ถ้ำสวรรค์), Tham Neramit (ถ้ำเนรมิต), Tham Nam Mut (ถ้ำน้ำมุด), Tham Phra Prang (ถ้ำพระปรางค์) and Waterfall - Namtok Huai Mae Khamin (น้ำตกห้วยแม่ขมิ้น).

Hin Dat Hot Spring

Golf Kanchanaburi’s rural areas are home to several golf courses. The courses are popular due to their close vicinity to Bangkok and natural scenery.

Thanks Samui Ian. I did say 'Waterfalls' in my post though. I live in Kan, have done for a few years and now the area well. Bored of the waterfalls to be honest.

This Thai says Thanks to 'Samuian' for listing the places along with Thai script, which makes it easy to remember and can clearly relate to some locals when asking the direction to these intetesting places. :)

I like my temple tour. Go over the Bridge passing Immigration then take the first left turn. Rought road so take it easy.

First temple is on your right hand side

large.jpg

Go up the stairs :D

Also in the ground they have a very small zoo.

Next temple is on your left

This statue is not enclosed and under a roof.

Also there is a very small shrine with a Monk that passed away in a glass casket.

Please feed the fish as well on the Meklong Dam.

Third is the famous "Wat Tum Seu"

If the back gate is open then it is a short walk up

Great views of Kan from there.

Dams up 3199 road

Thanthungna Dam

Have you tried going to Sangklaburi for the weekend. Plenty places to stay and things to do.

Or Thongpaphum? There's a little mountain road out the back which goes to Ban-I-Thong and the border.

If you go up past the Erawan NP you'll get to the reservoir and further on to Si Sawat. Instead of taking the ferry, drive around the reservoir.

Think you're limiting yourself with the 60km. Weekend trips may be the way.

Sri Nakarin dam .. nice scenic route, drive over the dam and end up at a kind of small park.

Stone salla`s to sit, nice view. Impressive dam and lake.

Good place to picnic, or buy something at the shops .

great photos, especially Thanthungna Dam

i'm going to take a drive up by Sri Nakarin reservoir. if i only have time to do one side, what would you recommend west side or east side? i like to see mountain and lake sceanery.

i'm also interesting in checking out the local villages with lake and mountain views with a possible eye towards moving up there some day. are there any particularly scenic villages overlooking the lake?

thx steve

Drive east side, but do NOT take the first Ferry sigh, take the longer route 20 kms more to Ampur Si Sawat and then take the Ferry to Huai Mae Khamin to the west side.

The road on the this map is quite white btw.

Then you Kan drive all the way back after seeing
