On Tuesday Morning at Pattaya City Hall, Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya held a press conference to announce the setting up of an emergency relief fund for the people of Haiti whose lives have been devastated by a powerful earthquake that hit the Island on 12th January. It is now thought that up to 200,000 people may have lost their lives, and those that survived the 7.0 magnitude quake are in desperate need of assistance. For this reason, Pattaya’s Mayor in cooperation with the Kasikornbank has set-up an account so the people of Pattaya can donate funds to assist the people of Haiti to rebuild their lives. The Kasikornbank account is in the name of “Pattaya for Haiti Fund” and the account number is 389-2-3777994. We also understand that donation boxes will be placed in a number of hotels around Pattaya. Alternatively, if you wish to donate some money, you can call 089 837 5207 or the Pattaya City Call Center on 1337.

I am not sure I would trust the admins of this fund, sorry. Probably safer to go to the

or perhaps the special fund set up by the Thai red cross.

Absolutely no question at all.

Trust issues alone would make me never give money to City Hall. There are faster and safer ways of sending money as you have pointed out, but they will get something in, probably mostly from trusting Thais, and I would hate to see their administration charges on an account like this.

300,000 Baht and counting as Pattaya raises money for the Haiti Earthquake survivors

Locally, efforts are underway to raise much needed funds for the people of Haiti who have been devastated by the recent earthquake which hit the area. Pattaya City Hall Security Officers, known in Thai as “Trasagit” have been stationed outside the Chaimonkon Temple in South Pattaya for the past week and we are pleased to report that they have, so far, raised around 300,000 Baht. The donation center is being run in cooperation with the local branch of YWCA and will continue indefinitely. It is open between 10am and 5pm. There is another donation point run by the Tresagit on Walking Street which is open between 8pm and Midnight, close to the Tourist Police Mobile Unit. We urge you to donate to this worthy cause and help those whose lives have been changed forever because of this terrible natural disaster.

Well yes, and if you think back to the tsunami and allegations of misdirected relief funds meant FOR THEIR OWN PEOPLE it is difficult to trust Thai authorities.

What happened to the various ambassadors' letter that demanded an investigation into the misappropriation of significant amounts of Tsunami funding a while back. It must have been pretty serious for the ambassadors to get together, but aside from one official being moved sideways I heard nothing more about it.

Shameful.
