Unseasonal Rainstorms Hit Pattaya

Torrential Rain is something you would not expect to see in Pattaya at the end of January, but that is exactly what occurred on Friday to the surprise of residents and tourists who expect non-stop sunshine at this time of year. Flash floods, normally seen in the latter months of the year, caused havoc around the City and in some streets, the roads resembled lakes. Khun Ronagit, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya was on the streets and appeared shocked at what he saw. He mobilized city workers to begin clearing drains in affected areas and fire trucks were sent to clear rainwater from the worst effected areas. This unseasonal rain is being caused by a massive storm front running from Northern China all the way down to Myanmar, according to the latest satellite images. The torrential rain continued on Saturday Afternoon and is expected to continue throughout Sunday. The weather for Monday is expected to return to Normal.

We got the rain here in Ban Chang yesterday too, just after lunch and on and off right through until after sunset, but it was beautiful! It wasn't torrential but just light sprinkling that came and went for around every second half hour, so if you timed your rides between stopovers, you could ride a motorbike in a polo-shirt and still turn up looking reasonably dry (if not smelling a little damp) at the next bar.

Best part is how it seems to have gotten rid of all those bloody mosquitoes now. Not to mention the dust and residue off all the stuff that hasn't been rained on in the last three months. Let it rain down on me! :)

Hi,

Could you tell me how you would fix it ?

Not easy I think to have efficient drainage in a nearly flat city :)

Ask the Dutch. They manage to keep entire cities, flat as a stamp and below sea level, completely drained during the heaviest downpours...

Shh. The last thing these lazy till-handed freeloaders need is another good suggestion for an overseas junket.
