'Splash Jungle' opens in Phuket

MAI KHAO, PHUKET: -- ‘Splash Jungle,’ Phuket’s first state-of-the-art water park, opened today on the grounds of the West Sands project in Mai Khao.

Among the park’s many attractions are a 335-meter ‘Lazy River’ water ride that meanders through seven themed sections: Inca-Maya, Africa, Asia, Turkey, Northern Europe, North America – and even the North Pole.

Two high-octane slide rides are sure to please thrill-seekers: ‘The Boomerango’ and ‘The Super Bowl’.

The Splash Jungle also features a wave pool, a family play area, a bar, a cafe and a number of shops.

The park, built at a cost of half a billion baht, covers 22,400 square meters and holds 6 million liters of water.

The project was designed and manufactured by White Water Industries of Canada, which claims to have over 4,000 projects around the world, including work on Disneyland and Sea World in the US.

Among the many dignitaries at today’s grand opening ceremony were Phuket MP Raywat Areerob and Phuket Vice Governor Teerayut Eimtrakul.

Splash Jungle is now open daily from 10am to 6pm.

The following introductory rates will apply for tourists until April 30, 2010:

Adults: 1,795 baht

Children: 1,050 baht

Children under 100cm tall: Free

Thais and foreign residents will pay the following:

Adults: 1,500 baht

Children: 1,050 baht

All rates are subject to a 10% service charge and 7% value added tax.

Bit too far away from the popular tourist areas to attract a lot of business.

It's either a very well informed, brave marketing team....or a complete fruitcake that has the "introductory price" at around $64 per adult and $37 per child. If thats introductory, what will the "real" price be...

An average family of 2 adults and 2 kids will be over $200 for the day, not counting food, drinks and the taxi to get them all the way to Westsands and back.

I'm not feeling that price, especially when I read about the rather anemic water features.

Time will well.

5,500 baht for a family of four

I do not see this place lasting long at all at those prices

Maybe tourists but that is about it

I don't see any Thai's paying that much

Bangkok has Siam Park City Water Park at no where near this cost at 200 baht for adults and 100 baht for kids

Over 2000 baht.........and that's the introductory price! Then there's the cost of transport from the southern beaches.

Nearly as cheap to fly to KL and go to Sunway Lagoon!

At least the farang can not complain about being charged more than a Thai

What service do you get for the 180 baht service charge?

Come to think of it, that's how much entrance should be if this pipe dream wants to stay financially feasible.

Expect to see a new local price of, say, 300 Baht introduced for Thais.

hopefully entrance price goes down for more poeple can have some fun.

30 pounds sterling to get into a park that would cost no more than 10 in Europe?

Not for me.

Perhaps we could get a tuk tuk to get there and then go and get a bank loan to pay for it all!

I guess these prices includes the commission for our tuk tuk friends and other touts.

Sticker shock on the price!

Maybe they should run a special where for each adult ticket, 2 kids tickets can be purchased for 500 baht or something. As the cost for a family of 4 is so far in the stratosphere that I believe that this place will not be able to pay the loan (if they have one) or pay for maintenance.

They should offer a yearly pass much like other theme/water parks do around the globe.

It's not like i'd go everyday, twice a month or something.

I'd pay 10,000 baht for one.
