Big waves at Nai Harn Beach. Swimmers should never

enter the water when red flags are flying.

PHUKET: -- The Meteorological Department (MET) has issued a weather advisory warning of rough offshore conditions over the next two days.

Issued at 4pm today from the MET headquarters in Bangkok, the warning calls for strong monsoonal conditions across the country, causing heavy seas in both the Andaman Ocean and Gulf of Thailand from today through Thursday.

All shipping should proceed with caution.

Flood warnings are also in effect in several provinces in the North.

The 24-hour forecast for Phuket for the period starting at 5pm today calls for fairly widespread thundershowers covering 70% of the province and isolated heavy rain.

Winds will be Southwesterly at 15kmh to 35 kmh.

Wave heights will be one to two meters, and more than two meters in storm areas.

Tomorrow's sunrise will be at 6:20am.

As usual, reasonably rough seas on the day the warning came out, and all quiet again for today, the first day the warning is applicable.

Completely and utterly useless.
