Windows 7 Start Up

Featured Replies

When Windows 7 starts up on my Dad's computer an Advanced Performance Options box opens automatically.

It's easily got rid of but nothing will prevent it reopening next time the computer starts.

All suggestions found by Googling have been closely followed to no avail.

I am running XP and W7 on different drives but will look when I reboot into W7 later. In XP I could look at msconfig, startup and disable a process. I don't know enough about W7 yet but I'll look at this for you. Perhaps someone will answer before I get back so we both learn.

A quick look on Google shows the same process in Windows 7.

Type MSCONFIG in the search box and then either press enter

Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.

Be careful what you disable.

Look for the program you want to stop loading and uncheck the box.

Click on the OK button.

A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.

Easy way to go is install CCleaner and go to Windows Start Up options deselecting the crap you don't want.

A virtual memory issue. Open a elevated command prompt with admin rights; run the following command:

sc config afs start=disabled
