Movies/Series/Programmes..That You Cant Quite Remember

Featured Replies

Every so often i recaII what was either a movie or a series (i think it was a series) from when i was about 8 years oId i think. So..around 1980.

I vagueIy remember this man on a quest to find out the meaning of Iife (no..not Monty Python :P).. in the end he found a tower..and in that tower heId the meaning of Iife..or destiny ...or something Iike that. After his epic journey...it turned out to be a mirror. He pIayed a fIute i think.

Anyone have any idea what the heck this series/movie might have been caIIed???

Anyone eIse needing heIp with vague requests ^_^

Yep, that was it, Paula Yates gets some dragons burned on her arms by carrying a cauldron of hot coals into the snow and then hangs her boyfriend from a hook on an ancient door........ classic.

Now that is character acting

I seem to recall that one of the earlier Dr Who's was a flute player (or was it a recorder). Anyway, what you are describing could be a plot from the series - were there any Daleks in it?

If there was Daleks in it, it was probably an early cooking programme.

Sausage and eggs? I only have corn-flakes for breakfast.

Was that Tom Brown? The Dr with the old fedora and long scarf? I'm sure he was the one that played the recorder.....he was my fave Dr.

Anyway....I don't think Eek was alluding to The Dr........

I have a very vague recollection of what Eek describes....and I think it was a one-off, or perhaps a series, but each episode was a different story, unconnected to the last....sort of like Tales Of the Unexpected (with Roald Dhal )

Hey!!!!! Eek, was it Tales Of The Unexpected? Roald Dhal would introduce each story, sitting in his wheelchair with a tartan blanket over his knees....????

Haha..wasnt Dr.Who. xD Maybe not focus too much on the flute part..have a sneaky suspicion ive maybe blended in a bit of kung <deleted> in there..lol.

Wasnt Tales of the Unexpected...although i used to get to stay up late with my nana to watch that. Was great! Well at the time it was..maybe would be a bit silly now?

I just remember this guy was dressed a bit like um Price of persia style maybe. He trekked far and wide on some kind of quest to find out what the meaning of life (or similar) was. He was sent from place to place. Lots of adventures. Some exotic looking women and all that jazz. Eventually his quest ended at this tower.. and there was this book there (i think it was a book..er)..and when he opened it..it was just a mirror. He was upset etc etc..but it was explained that the meaning of life is in each of us...something along those lines anyway.. Geez..was SO long ago..i was just a kiddy! =x

Harcourt..im SO relieved that someone has some kind of vague recollection of what im describing!

The one with the long scarf was Tom Baker, the one that played the recorder (and yes it was a recorder was Patrick Troughton (Peter Davidson had the scarf too sometimes)

I had to wiki this as I lost track after Paul McGann, please excuse the formating.

didnt like mr.ben much, adored bagpuss, liked Mr.Tickle the best from Mr.Men.

Tom Baker was Doctor Who for me. He was awesome. He had the robot doggy too. K9? (Canine...didnt get that till years later..lol). Couldnt handle Richard/david? Pertwee? as a doctor. Kept expecting him to take his head off....

But, no doctor ever topped Tom Baker for me. When he went, i lost interest. Maybe I also grew out of it.

'Jon' - without the 'h' - just to be ostentatious I suspect.

Or maybe he abbreviated Jonathan?

This thread got me thinking about "Quatermass & the Pit" and I was going to ask if anyone remembered it and to fill me in on the storyline again

But first I thought I'd have a quick recce on You Tube, when blow me down, there's 10 episodes.....

So now I can bookmark it and view at a later date for a bit of nostalgia

Oh god, yes I remember that one, not looking it up so just from memory, a tube station in London collapses, people start to go missing, army are called in, discover ant like creatures determined to kill anything that isn't an ant like creature, Quatermass is called in to try to unravel where they came from, he insists with some authority that they are from Mars, they decide the best thing to do is wipe out the site ever further than the original collapse, so collapse it even more and the last thing you see is the devil in fire form rising over the pit.

That's my memory, don't know how close it is, but as a young boy with a packet of Smiths salt and vinegar crisps and a can of Shandy Bass baby-sitting his younger brother, it scarred the living daylights out of me.

I said Tom Brown...yes, I meant Baker....he was my fave Dr too.

Do you remember Saphire And Steel? I loved that.

Of course, mention of Saphire brings to mind Lumley's best known role as Patsy in Ab Fab. :)

Great show, didn't last anything like long enough.
