'How Can You Know You'Re Not Gay?' Ask Bosses

Featured Replies

Actually, I suspect the numbers are declining because attitudes towards sexual experimentation have changed rather than any shift in behavior. I suspect that in 1970 everyone thought if you had same sex experiences that made you gay, whereas nowadays its not uncommon for kids to experiment and do not even begin to consider themselves as gay.

Because, if stats are to be believed there aren't many gay people in Canada. The same reason you are not concerned about Punjabi speakers there simply are not that many in Canada. There are more Punjabi speakers in Canada than gay people.

Actually, my home town of Duncan, BC has a large population of Punjabi and east Indians. They've been here since the early 1900s and they NEVER integrate into any western cultures. There is no inter-marriage with any Christian faiths at all, and they stay in small, specific residential areas of the town. They were originally involved in mostly the saw milling industry.

Vancouver has a large gay population, but we don't see much of it outside of major urban centers. Loggers and commercial fishermen, who make up a good portion of the Vancouver Island population, tend to be intolerant red-necks in general.

That is an interesting interpretation. I would ask what major condition changed between 1970 and now? In the beginning before it made the crossover to the heterosexual population HIV was strictly seen as a gay problem. All of the gay bathhouses in San Francisco were closed to protect public health.

In the mind of the public HIV still remains a gay problem.

Your supposition that children who sexually experiment today feel any different than children who sexually experimented in the 1970's I have never seen documented anywhere. Where did you get the idea?

It is pretty simple. 22 million people have died of AIDS since 1970.

I am not saying it is (as a matter of fact I know it is not) but people perceive it to be a gay disease.

Either men are having less gay sex or if they do are less forthcoming about it.

I am saying that I dont' think you really have any idea what kids of today are like, Mark. If you really think the things you do then you are so far out of the current mode of thought of anyone under the age of about 25-30 that its a wonder you can communicate with them beyond ordering a cup of coffee.

You are just being nasty for no reason. 1. I, nor anyone else has any idea what you mean when you say, “think the things you do.” 2. Insulting, “it's a wonder you can communicate with them beyond ordering a cup of coffee.”

I have two daughters between the ages of 25 and 30. For the past three years I have taught Thai students between the ages of 25 and 30 daily.

I am afraid you are out of touch. AIDS has obviously frightened the younger generation. That you choose not to recognize that fact or the fact that reported male homosexuality is definitely decreasing among all age groups in most countries is simply ignoring the facts.

I have no problem debating you on the issues but please state what it is you disagree with instead of starting a slug fest for no apparent reason.

Slugfest? I suggest you read your posts again mark. Your posts scream either ignorant or troll and given your latest spate, I am starting to lean towards troll.

My apologies for a small digression back to the original topic

"How can you know you're not gay? Ask Bosses"

In actual fact, the people asking the question were not bosses, they were a survey team asking deliberately provocative questions which had no direct relationship to employmnet or career progression, but were intended to invite participants to examine and challenge their own prejudices.

Now, I am lucky that I have always been able to find an employer that shares my own vices, prejudices and bigotries, but others of us have to at least feign different values, and such challenges help us to do so.

Let's face it - there's no point asking a poof "How can you know you''re not gay"; whereas if one really wants to sort the lads from the boys, its a great question. (I'm not sure whose side that last aside was on...)

Anyway, how can we be sure of our own prejudices and bigotries, unless we challenge them on a regular basis?

I don't know how to answer you if you can't tell me what you are talking about. A blanket statement about my posts tells me little. I don't know what my latest spate is. I don't even know if you are referring to this thread. Your last two posts to me only seemed designed to get an angry responses from me.

I am not angry. I just don't know what you are talking about. I am not a mind reader. If you can't tell me why you think I am being either ignorant or a troll I really don't know.

I have politely asked twice for some clarification of what you are talking about. If you choose to continue to insult me without being specific about what you are referring to I will not respond.
