Mother commits suicide and 1 year old child dies from broken neck in Pattaya family home

PATTAYA: -- A Mother committed suicide after she allegedly and possibly inadvertently broke the neck of her 1 year old daughter as she slept. The incident occurred at a family compound in the Na-Jomtien area on Wednesday. Khun Apiwan aged 18 woke up on Wednesday to find her daughter had passed away during the night. Khun Apiwan’s Mother, Khun Apiradee aged 42 who lives close-by, came to visit the pair as she does every morning but saw the 1 year old was asleep.

Actually, being a father and all that, you should realise how fragile young infants can be. It would only take the baby to be laying in a twisted fashion and some weight being applied in the wrong place for this to very easily happen.

My young boy sleeps in some strange positions in-between my wife and I. I leave one of those long pillow things in-between my son and I so I don't roll over onto him. I just couldn't imagine how this young mother would feel. I would probably do the same thing as her.

PATTAYA: -- Investigators have concluded that the death of a mother found next to her dead baby, who she had accidentally killed in her sleep, was suicide, and not murder.

Sattahip, 22nd Dec 2010 (PDN) : Investigations into the tragic case of a mother, who shot herself in the head after she discovered she had killed her baby inadvertently in her sleep, have concluded that the mother’s death was definitely suicide and not murder.

I have read it is VERY COMMON for babies to be accidentally killed simply by people falling asleep next to them and crushing them, as they aren't capable of moving away. This kind of death is commonly and falsely reported as SIDS. It is important that babies be left to sleep in their OWN space.

Agreed. Us biggies do not know what we do in our sleep and the wee ones are very vulnerable. I know parents do it cos the babe will probably give ma and pa a nights sleep but........................
