Looking at a new laptop, I am looking at a ASUS brand.

As many would know, they have a international warranty included in the sale price, not a surprise add on.

I will be buying it abroad from Thailand, but travelling to Thailand frequently, my experience in Thailand with warranty's with defected products is cave man standard compared to developed countries even with western brands.

What brands have good local support for laptop warranty in Thailand that is done locally.

I had a 'acquittance' who claimed he had a Toshiba under some kind of international warranty that the manufacture honoured, but it took several months and the machine was sent abroad and then when it came back to Thailand, customs wanted 9000b. Things may have changed with Toshiba, but having a great warranty is only as good as the local Thai end it seems.

I am after feed back on the major brands please for when things go wrong in Thailand and of course ASUS.

Acer has local service centers and fixes stuff locally. Only had experience with the service center in Chiang Mai, but they were great. They sometimes had to order parts from Taiwan or BKK but these would arrive within a day or two from BKK and inside a week from Taiwan. You'll have to get the international warranty separately. I bought mine in Thailand and it came with a 3 year local warranty.

Not the best in terms of quality though.... ;)

Apple also has an international warranty but the authorized resellers in Thailand order pretty much everything from Singapore so parts take a few days. They usually say it will take a week, but then get the part 2 days later - happened a few times now.

From reports I have read Acer has the most talked about good after sales service. I only used them for a RAM increase and considered it good. But Thailand, being a relatively small market, will not have the parts to support but a few models and would require order for many repairs. I have also used Toshiba for RAM upgrade with no issues. Have never had reason to use warranty service for any computer, since my first unit in 1983.

I have an HP Compaq, no problem with the warranty except it would have taken them a minimum of 30 days to sort out plus sending it back and forth.(there service center is 2hr drive for me) I took it to a local place for fixing, took an hour and 5oo baht.

Regarding Asus, I have read feedback reports on Amazon about very poor customer support for ASUS again time consuming and extremely slow, average turnaround of about a month or longer if they need to wait for parts.

I bought my Toshiba in the US. The HD crashed last May and I took it to Toshiba in BKK (just off of Hwy 31 & 1) and they replaced it and transfered the data from the old HD in one day all under warranty.

I've bought 2 HP's in recent yrs from US (made in China) because they are half the price as those in Thailand, until now never needed service.

My Asus U3 was bought in the US with the extended 2-year international warranty. It started black screening so I dropped it off at Asus service center on Rama IV. I had the original sales receipt and they accepted it for warranty repair despite being a model not available in the SE Asia market and only 10 days left on the warranty. They replaced the mobo; took about a month but took longer to get it back as they closed the service center for another month due to the redshirt circus. They issued a 60-day warranty on the repair and waived the 'storage charge' for repairs not collected within 7-days of notification. Email support was real good during these dubious delays (and I was in Vietnam).

No complaints from me regards Asus service and international warranty support in LOS.
