When I lived in the village the only people dumber than the village idiot were people who talked about the village idiot for years after he was gone.

Our village idiot was nicknamed Dude. Everybody called him Dude. He lived in an old trailer. He never cleaned it and there were copperhead snakes in the trailer. One day a couple bit him, he was drunk and died.

People forgot about him quickly. Except the new village idiots. There surfaced three or four of them. They sat on the front porch and told people stories, that everyone knew and didn't want to hear again about Dude.

Then one day at the general store, Bobby Harold was walking by. The four new village idiots were as usual telling stories about the deceased, Dude. Bobby Harold had had it.

He yelled at them, “You four no account retards, you are twice as dumb as Dude ever was. The man is gone. Let him the F*** alone. All the even marginally sane people here are tired of your constant telling of the same old story.”

That's why they began to call the people who were telling stories about Dude the “New Village Idiots.”

i humbly apologise! :jap:

I don't consider Bush an idiot, he did the job his mentors put him in to do; if he handled public appearances poorly, that's a fairly common fault.

Behind the scenes a very conservative committee ran the US and got most of their agenda through.

I doubt any of the serious errors were his, and even doubt if the right sees them to be errors.

As I said before, Iraq was about making it's oil supplies available to the West.

I'm not a big fan of name calling and belittling people one doesn't agree with. It's been one of the principal weapons of conflict since the invention of the newspaper. Goebbells fine tuned it, remember those hideous cartoons of Jews?

Sure Palin may not be all that smart in the ways we like our leaders to be, but the people behind her will be very smart, and they're the ones that worry me, not Sarey.

Not even as far as blaming the Tucson shootings on public figures who had nothing to do with it? :o

Absolutely, but fortunately that hasn't happened.

I called in to see you yesterday, that's the third or fourth time I've missed you now.

The girls say "Mr G go exercise".

You're not hiding out the back are you? B)

A stupid answer to a stupid question. How would Russia's geographic closeness to Alaska give her special insight into Russia's actions?

btw - Obama didn't have any foreign policy knowledge either and he was running for the top job, not the position of head ribbon cutter like Palin.

Too lazy & uninterested to look it up but...If memory serves me...the stupid question was in response to a stupid comment Palin made about Russia's proximity to Alaska

I also do not disagree with Obama being just as useless as Palin...or Bush for that matter

The quote was issued by Tina Fey on Saturday night in a skit while impersonating Palin. How ever the lame street media continues to attribute it to Palin. As far as Bush and the "Obama" being useless, I think it's too kind a description

Very good post, Mark. Perhaps a little too subtle for the more hard headed ones out in TV land.

You're not hiding out the back are you?

I'm braving a freezing cold swimming poll as well as a a boring elliptical machine and some very light weights. You are just coming by during my break.

Ummm no....Yes Tina Fey did tease her in a skit & embellished but it was based on Palin making the original statement as I said.

Also as I said I was too lazy to look it up but saw your post....

Here ya go

From my understanding, many of Tina Fey's Palin Parodies are in fact exact copies of what Palin herself said, word to word. She just changes the tone of voice to make her seem even dumber than in reality.

A 12 second video with the reply cut off at 6 seconds? What exactly was that supposed to prove?

Tina Fey changed it to something like "I can see Russia from my house".

I'd bet 90% of Americans don't even know that Russia is the closest foreign country to the US that doesn't share a land border.

Again, the question was stupid in the first place. Or maybe someone here would like to take a shot at what a "proper" answer would be?

Can You Really See Russia From Alaska?

By Nina Shen Rastogi

Posted Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at 5:25 PM ET

In her Sept. 11 interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, Sarah Palin had this to say about Russia: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Is that true?

Yes. Russia and Alaska are divided by the Bering Strait, which is about 55 miles at its narrowest point. In the middle of the Bering Strait are two small, sparsely populated islands: Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States. At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart, which means that, on a clear day, you can definitely see one from the other. (To see the view of Big Diomede from Little Diomede, check out this webcam.) The Diomede Islands are often blanketed by persistent fog, which makes visibility difficult. On a clear day, though, a person standing at sea level can see a little less than three miles across the ocean. You can see farther if you go higher—at the highest altitude on Little Diomede (919 feet), you can see for about 37 miles. (Between mid-December and mid-June, when the water between the two islands freezes, an intrepid explorer can just walk from one to the other.)

I don't think there's any doubt that you can see Russia from Alaska. The point at the time was that Sarah Palin was touted as being the possible US Vice President. If her total contribution to US foreign policy was that she could see Russia from her backyard perhaps it's best that she wasn't elected.

It looks like someone who reads their news on the Internet from a variety of sources must be lying according to some.

I'm not a fan of Palin, but the way that she has been unfairly ridiculed and demonized says a lot more about her critics than it does about her. :whistling:

If there was a major world political crisis would you want Palin to be the woman with her finger on the nuclear trigger?

No way, but that does not change the fact that she has been treated unfairly. However, I would not want her to be elected to any government office of any importance as she is unqualified.

For the last two years, we have had Obama, backed up by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi.

Does that make you feel all warm and cozy?

I'm just impressed that you were able to post a video NOT of Ron Paul. That must be a first. I hope they don't dock your pay for that.

The genius of the Palin choice for VP should have been that it put a spotlight on the issue of experience. An objective media would have noted that while Palin doesn't have enough experience to be VICE President, Obama had even less experience to be PRESIDENT. Palin - running for the rarely needed back-up role of VICE President - at least has executive experience as Governor of Alaska while Obama's achievements stop at being a Community Organizer and the ability to write TWO memoirs after serving only 100 days as a US Senator. That would have shown voters what they have found out the past two years - that Obama is horribly unqualified to be the PRESIDENT. McCain should have won in a landslide. But, the MSM instead focused like a laser beam on Palin's faults and glossed over Obama's.

I don't remember which journalist said it but it was basically..."Don't you wonder how there can be dozens of investigative reporters in Alaska within hours of Palin's nomination, trying to dig up dirt on her? Yet these same investigative journalists have yet to uncover Obama's school records, college transcripts, passport information and his original birth certificate?"

(Paraphrased but the thought is the same.)

It gets even more terrifying:

It's not the "Russia next door comment" but what she says afterwards that gives me the heeby jeebies.

Unfair ridicule, really?

OK.

Here's the really scary shit. This IS NOT a parody.

(Attachment deleted to save band width)

Here's some "scary shit" from the other side of the abortion discussion:

http://www.msnbc.msn...ime_and_courts/

http://www.asianewsn...ws.php?id=15601

These were NOT parodies either.

Are you trying to suggest that Pailin is right?

These are cases of illegals abortion that should never have been carried out. What does it have to do with legal, safe abortion under the right conditions and circumstances? Even if abortion was outlawed, do you think it will stop cases such as this?

Is that the best counter argument you can come up with?
