Things You Learned Today

I don't have any mamels. I don't even know what they are.....are they somethiing like a camel?

I would suggest that the word (acronym) was 'MAMIL' (Middle-Aged Men In Lycra) - e.g. Tony Abbott and his ilk. A disgusting sight on the beaches of Chonburi Province. Or more likely in the bars of Pattaya.

I learned today that following the royal decree of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who ordered a bonus to be paid to government employees, more private businesses in Saudi are to follow suit. My company has just informed me that next month I will also get an additional 2 months salary (tax free of course). Although I like living in Saudi anyway, these extra surprises make it marvellous. :D I shudder to think how much this is costing the Saudi government and private businesses.

The funny thing is. When I got home to tell the wife the good news, she already knew about it. It looks like the "housewives" knew about it before us employees. :D

I have learned that regardless of helpful advice offered when requested that some people will just ignore it and prefer to sit on their hands and bitch and moan. Most annoying

That is just normal, sbk. People who moan and complain don't REALLY want an answer to their complaints. They just want someone to listen to them. My brother is like that. He would rather blame all his problems on what happened 45 years ago than take a look at the beautiful world around him and start over. Today is the first day of the rest of your life... enjoy it. It's not coming again.

I don't have a hump....you're thinking of that mother camel again.

What is a Mother camel refer to as...??

I don't have a hump....you're thinking of that mother camel again.

That is unfortunate, Harky. If you were willing to pay for it then you could have a hump any time you wanted and it would be far cheaper in the long run.:whistling:

What I learned today is that my boss (who I loathe and detest on an epic basis) recently had his S class Merc written off by one of his own van drivers who ran into it and wrecked it completely. Some days just turn out so well..

:cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

I got a big box full of loverly stuff seems clean

That was my daily mail comment.

Anything to keep the underclass from getting restless.

Learned today that I'm going to be a Grandfather.....at 54.;)

^^^^

Congrats! :)

.........................

Today I learn't not to let the wife manage her own cosmetic surgery.

Her hair has been thinning, so she signed up for a ten week course of head injections (imagine an electric stapler) to stimulate hair growth. She now has a mousetache and hair sprouting on her boobs.

Look on the bright side....you may not have to use contraception now.

Today I learned that because I was a wee bit overdrawn on my bank account (here in Swissland 20 quid is a big no no)that I had to phone up the little man in a suit to de-block my account. And was very politely told that they will fine me for the 20 quid. I only have a small amount of money in there, there are people who have zillions.

Switzerland is known to be the hub of all banks. But to the local who lives here they are archaic. If i go to a hole in the wall which is not my bank (which would cost me in bus fares) I have to pay for the privilege.

When I win the lottery I am going off shore. Next lottery is around 12 million swissies..... i think.

And, on another thought before I watch Jeremy Kyle, about my eviction from my flat because the spoilt brat wants to move in. I have been told by lots of people that those people cannot do it, by law.

Shall be googling all afternoon to see if that is right or not. I pay my rent, I have been here for 6 years etc. Landlady also has other flats in the block etc. etc. So why me? Last in, first out seems to come to mind.

Patsy, the banking bit happens like that in the UK too. At least with Lloyds.

As far as the apartment goes, I don't know Swiss law, but in the UK, if you're a legal tenant, you are entitled to xx days notice, then get out. Excepting only if you've been there over ten years, then slightly different rules apply.

Of course, if you're a squatter, not paying any rent, then you can't be evicted and the gov'mint will even pay your court expenses.

If you are a squatter in Thailand, you get to keep the land you are squatting on.

Note: Not for everyone, special conditions apply.

Depends, my neighbors were squatters, with the full knowledge and permission of the owner. When he wanted to develop the land he built them a house elsewhere, they had lived on his land and taken care of it for years, probably at least 20. They could easily have laid claim to it but since it was all amicable, they got a new house and he developed his property into the monstrosity that gave me high blood pressure.

I learned something about how Thais viewed the earthquake last night as compared to the farangs in our group. The Thais looked panic stricken when it first happened while the farangs just shrugged their shoulders and said..."Hey, that was an earthquake", and then carried on with what we were doing.

Why the angst? Details please.....

Angst? No angst. Try construction noise. Try dozens of angle grinders buzzing away the entire day, from 7 AM to 6 PM, day after day after day for months on end. 7 days a week. Drove my BP up through the roof.

when the angle grinders stopped, the BP went back down.

Working in the construction industry, this is a daily occurence, plus pile driving, concrete vibrating and other noises. After a while one learns to filter the unusual from the background and ignore the rest.

But in SE Asia it seems that the workers do not get the best use out of their tools - over-run every piece of kit we give them and wonder why they need frequent repair.

I learned last night that you can shoot a very good game of pool and STILL lose. Sometimes the balls just don't line up properly for you. :(

Yeah...blame the balls.

When I lose at pool, it's always the walls fault. Creeps up behind you and puts you off...............

I will. I shot down the first 7 on the first rack and never got another good shot after that. I was always snookered. I'm not good enough at bank shots to sink them more than one in 7 or 8 tries. But, I've seen pros put a damp spot on the felt with their finger and then bounce the cue ball off all 4 sides to then land on the cue ball on the damp spot. Blows me away how they can do that... just like everything pros can do.

Being blown away by pros eh ..... Damp spot on the old felt...................Mmmmmmmm Too easy Ian.smile.gif

Yeah, me too. The creeps are always putting me off.

I learned that pots should not call kettles black and all those people who comment so racistly about Thai intelligence need to read this entire thread first. And then shut up.

What's astonishing is that some of them are even replying to replies.

So they must be reading the posts where people are pointing out the nature of the article, but even then they are still not getting it.

Just about to crack open my first beer of the night, so I think I might pop-in to 'play' a bit later.
