Why Is One Ok But Not The Other?

Featured Replies

A question was recently asked of the the Obama admin - Why is it OK to shoot an unarmed bin Laden dead but not OK to waterboard Khalid Sheikh Mohammed?

Even if we all agree that waterboarding is torture, is it worse than a bullet to the head?

Even more important to ask ourselves.....who or what will be the next invented boogieman?

I don't think it is OK... they should have brought him back alive, and put him on trial to show what a fool he was... but I'm sure this has been said many times already!

Dude

I'm beginning to think you need to put down the pipe.

Boogie-woogie, zza?

They would never wish for this. The secrets and truths that would make an appearance in a court setting would be much to embarrassing for the "Good Guys".

Iggy is a white guy. :D

....sometimes. And other times, not.:jap:

Two wrongs dont make a right

But two Wrights can make an airplane

But then again..... that was back when we actually made useful stuff instead of fairy tale wars for employment of the many & spending of tax $$$ for profit of the few.

You already have a thread on that subject but, thanks anyway for hijacking this thread so soon.

Mods, is there a <deleted> emoticon?

But war profiteering is sooooo vital to certain war/military-based economies. Take that fun away.....and where would they be?;)

I don't think there is.. But FYI, there is this one though: :jerk:

I always wondered what all these emoticons meant. Now I can see that nobody else knows either!

We use them to highlight our lack of literacy. Luckily, mine is obvious, so I don't need to find out how to use the smileys.

I did, though, but I could not find a decent grizzley, so I'll refrain

A typical thread it would appear that highlights the demise of OTB.

Well Done

Going into a hostile environment, not knowing if the country you are enforcing an action without sanction, dark, jittery, there is room for reasonable doubt about your actions.

Ok, I am stretching the imagination a little bit, however there is no stretching the torture of water boarding.

Both are clear cut observations.

Would I do either to save innocents, probably/possibly, could I take the moral high ground after, no, would I expect a retalitory strike in response, almost certainly.

You have to weigh up the odds, are you happy with the possible effects of your actions?

Neither are ok because neither involve due process.

One could even ask: Why some come across as definitive moral compasses yet tend to veer off when it comes to practice....??

Does it matter what kind of weapon was used to shoot Bin Laden? Would he have been any less unarmed if he had been shot from five hundred metres away with a sniper's rifle? Or from several kilometres away with a remotely-targeted missile? Or if he had been sitting inside a bunker instead of a house? Or in a tank? Or if the attackers had killed him with their bare hands?
