A set of ancient-style pottery, carved in incredible detail even at

the smallest scales, is one of the many interesting items that will

be on display in Phuket starting tomorrow.

PHUKET: -- The annual Amazing Thai Miniature World exhibition returns to Phuket tomorrow at the Jungceylon shopping complex in Patong.

Set to take place at Silang Boulevardon the ground floor, the exhibition will feature glimpses into the Thai way of life, both past and present, as represented by tiny carvings and other intricate artwork produced by expert craftsmen.

The event, going into its fifth year, aims to support Thai artists working in the genre and to raise the international profile of the art.

Bring your reading glasses or perhaps even a magnifying glass: highlights will include representations of the Indian deity Ganesha and the Chinese Bodhisattva Guanyin carved into pieces of ivory about the size of a grain of rice.

Also on display will be the smallest set of carved, antique-style pottery in the world.

The exhibition will also include miniature scenes showcasing Phuket’s unique history and culture, including the Vegetarian Festival.

The artists will be on hand to demonstrate the basic techniques of building miniature houses, food, dolls and pottery.

Traditional soft drinks, in a variety of bright colors, will be available for tasting.

Attendees will be able to buy a wide variety of handmade souvenirs at special prices during the event.

The exhibition continues through June 26. For more information call 076-600111.
