Wonderful, traditional style combined with modern.

We used restored wooden, folding doors from the front of an old shop house that was being demolished, plus old hardwood windows, to give our housebuild a classic look, but the rest is modern. The Missus was an accomplished project manager, and the house gives us a lot of pleasure, especially as it was designed to our specific needs and tastes.

Hey Crossy wtf did you go with all white?

Forget the environmental issues, what about all the stains?

Show us a pic. in a year.

It's not white, well OK, it's "Lily White" more Magnolia really.

It's actually the same colours it was painted originally 15 years ago. It is possible to see where the guys have completed vs the original paint but it's hardly noticeable. I would have left it alone but we had the scaffolding up so ...

My original paint scheme drawing.

Amazingly k. Dusit still had my original printouts from when he built the place back in 2011. Madam did call it "Neapolitan ice cream" but the strawberry is replaced by more milky-coffee colour.

Interestingly, in some photos the walls around the upstairs patio do look pinkish due to reflection from our reddish floor tiles.

Madam was very particular in requiring the traditional Ruean Thai style with the steep, curved roofline. She grew up in a teak house in Ayutthaya so I suppose that's where it came from. We were lucky to find a local contractor (k. Dusit) who was prepared to build it in steel and concrete (everyone else said "too hard").

We had great fun building it, and changing bits that didn't quite work out, k. Dusit is still a friend and our go-to man for serious building work.

EDIT One of the boys "accidentally" dropped a scaffolding plank from the roof level, made a bl00dy great bang and frightened the willies out of me. I had to get "a" beer to calm my nerves.

It was all going so well!

I took down our floodlights leaving the wires sticking out to re-install them, so the guys could re-finish and paint the walls.

The idiots have pushed the wires back into the conduits, plastered over them and painted!

You really couldn't make it up!

My own stupid fault coz I told them to fill the screw holes!

The problem is that there are now potentially live wires buried in the walls, at least they do have tape over the ends.

I'm just going to crawl into a corner and cry!

When we opened the plant in Thailand, at first, everyone was working on the floor, and one of the first things we did to train welders was build about 40 workbenches in several sizes using 50mm sq tubing & 50mm angle, with stainless feet and 4mm hot-roll tops.

The benches came out great and were just being painted when I left for a meeting in the US.

I get back to the plant, everyone is working sitting on the benches, effectively working on the floor, just a bit higher.

You get your lights back up?

Nah.

We've decided that we don't really need the mains powered floods anyway (we have loads of solar units now) and the wall looks nice, so I've isolated the wiring. The copper in the walls can be EMF protection from our local cell-tower whistling

We still have the big "1,000W" ones that light up the pool and party area like Wembley so that's enough.

If you can't beat em ...

... have another beer!

Looks great, so the white roof was just an undercoat?

Thanks for not painting it corporate grey, a trend that’s thankfully fading away.

We used to call it 'battleship grey'.

Funny that when I fixed up my FJ Holden (no money as a trainee), sprayed it a shade of Battleship Grey.

Wasn't called theft back then but plagiarism. :)

House just finished near us.......mainly orange, with corner posts in brown and boundary walls in lilac and green.

Each to his own.

Is colour-blindness a problem in Thailand??

There was a place near us which was fluorescent green walls under a bright blue roof. It sat on a sharp bend in the road and I joked with Madam that was so bright it would never get hit. Literally a month later I drove past and it had been obliterated by a loaded truck that hadn't made the bend. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt, but it's still an empty lot.

Was it brake failure or was the driver blinded by the light??

To listen to some of our leaders it's more like 'Blinded by the <deleted>e'.

And so, we bid a fond farewell to the scaffolding and the painters.

And we await the arrival of the guys who are going to fix the flashing on the patio roof so it doesn't leak when it rains.

Patio lights and fan working.

Also added an outlet so the grandkids can charge their scooters.

I promise I'll button up that box with the wires poking out.

Remember that scaffolding we just took down?

Roofers are adding fancy flashing to keep the rain from running down the walls.
