November 5, 200520 yr Phuket imposes strict checks on poultry entry to the island to ensure it remains 100% free of bird flu. Phuket officials are on duty 24 hours a day at Tha Chart Chai, as the only land gateway to the island, so the officials can ensure that poultry entering the island is 100% free of bird flu, as transporters must show official papers. Meanwhile the Phuket Public Health Office organized a seminar for health officials and volunteers for all 3 districts to have them well aware of preventive measures, procedures to follow in case of suspected cases in poultry and humans. Phuket Public Health Chief Dr Wanchai Satayawutipong said despite no cases being found, Phuket introduced 4 major measures to remain free of the disease. They are random checkpoints, surveys and records of all farms, public awareness and keeping watch of people with flu or pneumonia.
