I'm not sure why this is better than the reds and greens. That started out with no negative indicaters as well and that system was driven off the forum.

Because this system is all positive. On the old system, people were launching attacks by dissing all posts of perceived enemies.

This time we do it the "Facebook way" which is proven successful, and can't be abused.

I think naming the 'like' voter makes the whole process more rounded and less open to the frequency of clique voting.........

So I guess it is ok for those who value and strive to achieve a forum reputation above other members....i liked the red button.....but alas it was misused

I just liked this, but see no indication. Is it only on Jingthing's reputation on his profile?

Oh, I see how to do it. As was said earlier in the thread, put the curser over the member's nick and the reputation is revealed.

There's no curser, just a blessor.

So how does one get a negative reputation? Do we have to pay for our likes out of our own reputation?

See on Facebook, like, it says "Comment, like" and I always feel it should say, "Comment, like, by the way boys." actually.

Forget to mention, that your reputation points (number of Likes you have recieved) will also show up on your Member profile page. Just mouse-over a member name and you see the current score. This means that good, well written and informative posts increases your "karma" or "reputation" on the forum.

Forum reputation is visible to all members.

There is no Karma pls see thread about Karmapost-4641-1156693976.gif

Just noticed you also get a notification when someone 'likes' your post..

I'm liking every comment in this thread so that everyone gets a notification. I have a little spare time...

edit: Got to Jingthing and I ran out of likes for the day.

it makes no difference one way or another, it will still be the same 15 posters patting each other on the back

I think you are right about this.

What other reason would it be to have this?

If I see a topic which has 100 posts, I'm pretty sure it is a hot topic.

If I see a topic viewed by 300, but only 5-6 posts, I guess this is not so hot topic.

So once again, why do we have this "like system"?

Wow! UG has 198 'Likes' already. incredible!

Will there be a system for buying and selling 'Likes'? I might not get too many otherwise.

I see a potential black market for the trade in 'likes'.

A warning to everybody not to get on the wrong side of the rep mafia.

If a comment was made when nobody was around to hear it, would it still be a comment?

Yes, but the reputation feature would not be required as nobody heard the comment

It's a pretty worthless feature as I'm sure there must be others like me who won't use it and don't care at all if anyone else liked something someone posted. I know this isn't exactly an academic forum, but why dumb it down even further? Must be money in it, eh George?

But why do it at all? I think most posters are perfectly capable of posting comments of appreciation and maybe even expounding on it a bit.

yes...i can see a bit too much brown nosing happening...maybe a few too many 'safe' one line quips...over use of congratulatory terms in general..

I can also see the increased use of multiple accounts by the one person. One account for posting. One account for 'Likes' own posts.

I'm not sure how adding features dumbs it down. You could always ignore features you didn't like, and which you felt were an insult to your intelligence (like the spell checker, reputation, smileys) and plough your own furrow, dance to your own beet, grow your own way etc.

Some of us might enjoy the opportunity for another ridiculously puerile bickerfest.

On another specialist forum that I subscribe to, one can comment like (or comment dislike) in a single line that appears below the response to which you comment, or you can post a full-fledged rambling pontification like this. So instead of something like this being followed by a page of "eh?" "what?", each query just occupies one brief line "-1 eh? <deleted>". I think it works quite well, but then it is a rather more special-interest forum with perhaps a less diverse membership. On that forum, certain privileges accrue depending on your reputation, so that there are some benefits to being a respected poster

Do you remember the Red and Green feature we had before? Turned into a headache with cliques patting each other on the back and general abuse of the system.

What's different about this? (OK, besides not having "Dislike")

lol this is even worse than before. It's bad enough the same clique, factions, political groups, and sockpuppets will be holding ciricle jerks to upvote everything they agree with, now there is no way to vote them down.

Basing this forum on facebook...ugh. Facebook isn't a forum, and this isn't facebook. Facebook doesn't allow it because they're used as advertising for businesses and they don't want to be downvoted and they just want to spam people with links. All the forums that I've seen that have voting allow both. Reddit allows both, Youtube has both. Comments should have both or none, not just upvote link spam. Are you going to have it notify us whenever a friend 'likes' something now too?

So let them pat each other on the back if that is whats happening, it makes no difference to me at all and nor should it you or others IMO, if certain people want to feel better because they have more likes than others and it somehow makes them feel more important about themselves because someone likes what they posted then so be it.

If I use the like system I'll only use it because I genuinely agree/like a post made.

Like the red or green system before, if it's open to abuse and if certain people do abuse it, it will soon become clear to many using the forum that it's the same people liking and kissing each others nether regions unless they are using multiple accounts, saying that though, IMO there are a few posters on this forum who whose posts deserve a like and will receive a lot of likes if the system is used correctly

.

What I post I post and if it's liked then so be it, if it's disliked then same same, I aint going to lose any sleep over it, and IMO nor should anyone else.

Where is the counterpart.. i dont like this

"Do not like" button is unavailable on most social networking sites like Facebook and Thaivisa.

untrue unlike button is available Edited by true blue

Truth be told I would be happier without a system where "likes" were tallied and permanently linked to specific members. But it was inevitable that a forum "community" website as commercially huge as this one evolve towards something like this, so it could be worse, and the old reputation feature was indeed worse. So what we have now is not so bad, considering.

I would have been happier with a system of liking POSTS only with no tallies permanently tied to members.

In case this hasn't been mentioned yet, it appears the tallies from the old reputation feature have been retained in memory, so some members have not started at zero with this system, but started with their "balance" from the defunct system.

Not really. Only to reverse a like.

Having "likes" and no "dislikes" is nothing but a perpetual circle-jerk.

OTOH, having been a member of forums with the red / green rep feature, the longest (and funniest) threads are those about people getting pissed off at negative rep being heaped on their account.
