Unidentified foreigner found hanged in Phuket

PHUKET: An unidentified man was found strangled in a hilly area near Freedom Beach in Phuket yesterday afternoon. Police believe he took his own life by hanging.

Chalong Duty Officer Capt Nitikorn Rawang received a report about the body at about 5pm.

Police found the body in a sitting position on the ground next to a pond. The body was partially suspended by a rope wrapped around his neck and tied to a tree branch above. However, his legs were still on the ground.

The police believe the man, whose shoes had been removed and were sitting next to him, to be 25 to 30 years old. He was bearded, had a mustache and was dressed in white shirt and white, baggy shorts. He appeared to be a foreigner, possibly of Arab or Persian descent.

Unable to find any traces of a struggle or wounds to the body, police believe the man committed suicide.

Police were unable to find any documents on the body to help identify it.

He was not a guest at the nearby Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, police confirmed

Because he was not seen walking up the mountain from the hotel by staff or guests, Chalong Police believe he walked up to the pond from the Freedom Beach area.

Kusuldham Rescue workers transported the body to Patong Hospital for examination.

Not the same location, the security guard was found dead at his home.

Mrs Wanida told police she found her husband’s body suspended by the neck from a ceiling beam in the bathroom of their one-story cement home on Muen Ngern Rd, at the bridge to Patong Bay’s southern headland.

Any mass murderer would have the time of his life in Thailand. If the police cannot immediately find a trace it is suicide. Interesting that one can hang himself while his feet are still on the ground. I like to know how many people get killed by drugs and in how many cases the lazy incompetent police concludes that is was a heart attack.

The tree branch most likely bent from the prolonged weight of the body over several hours; perhaps you might like to go to the scene and inspect the branch and verify that it was of significant girth that it could not have bent down after hours of holding a great weight. The article said that his body was transported to a hospital for examination so there is a possibility that if something nefarious other than the initial observation was the cause of death it will be reported later.
