January 28, 201214 yr I was just wondering if anyone is colorblind, i know some are definately ugly bar girl blind after a few (or a lot of ) drinks. Do you really not see any color, and everything is different shades of black and white?
January 28, 201214 yr Why not look it up on Wikipedia or some other source of information. About ten per cent of our male members are colour blind, I expect (can I say 'male members' on a public forum?). We see the same colours you do. I expect we see them differently, and colours which might seem different to you may seem similar to us. And vice versa. I imagine you think you are not colour blind. SC

February 5, 201214 yr Here's the test..http://www.toledo-be...nd/Ishihara.asp I object !! This test describes me as normal. I AM NOT NORMAL !!!!!!
February 20, 201214 yr I'm colourblind. We 10% of men and 1% of women have di-chromatic vision as opposed to the boring tri-chromatic. So imagine there being only 2 primary colours and you have what I see. Not all colourblind people see in the same two colours. And the three colours normal vision sees are not the usual primary colours but red, blue and green. I think my world is all just red and green, though I'm not sure as I don't know what the other colour would look like.

So when one is setting up a projection TV, one can miss out the red gun, and never be any the wiser. Except for the incessent whinging of one's fellows, of course. So black on red (or vice versa) gives a poor colour contrast, as far as I am concerned. It was not until years after that I realised other people could see the stuff the teacher highlighted in red chalk on the blackboard. SC
February 20, 201214 yr I think I'm considered colorblind. At least I can't pass the Ishihara test. I pick out several numbers usually, but not enough to pass. I held professional qualifications which required colorblindness testing. Thankfully there was an alternative test available beside the Ishihara that I had zero problems passing in order to mantain my credentials.

My understanding was that - certainly for red-green colourblindness, which I am blessed with, you either are, or are not. You either have red receptors, or not. Its a specific gene... SC
February 20, 201214 yr Total colour blindness, as in seeing only shades of grey, is VERY rare. However, many men have different degrees of colour blindness. Most are with the reds and greens. I am one of those unfortunate souls who can't see the subtle shades of red. If I see a washed out shade of pink it might as well be grey to me. A purple with only a touch of red looks like royal blue to me. In my case it is unfortunate because I am an artist and paint in watercolours. I have a hard time portraying colours of nature correctly. I just have to guess and Sometimes I guess VERY WRONG. I've given some faces pink tones instead of tan. Some times I just get lucky and the result looks great. I've been told that my painting of the Grimsa River in Iceland is too green, but that is the colour that I saw. If I had to do the same painting again I would add more brown and yellow to the painting and then wash them out a bit more.

SC If you scroll down to Section V ( b ) - Color Vision, you can see all of the tests which are acceptable to the US Coast Guard for the determination of colorblindness. I think when I last took the test in the 1990's it was only the Ishihara and Farnsworth Lantern tests that were acceptable. I expect I could pass the color slide tests they have now, but there was just something about the pixalation of the Ishihara test that I couldn't beat. http://www.uscg.mil/.../cg/CG_719K.pdf edit: Nice paintings Ian.
