Need Progressive Glasses. Looking for Optometrist that is accessible by Skytrain and then in short walking distance. How long might it take to make them. Cost?

Thanks & cheers.

You aren't asking for much, are you?

Several shops just off Ratchathewi BTS and around the corner on Petchaburi Rd. will make them, usually a few days. If your prescription is strong, they may have difficulty getting the blanks. Be sure to ask for 'high-index' lenses, so they will be as thin as possible.

As for cost, it's highly dependent on your prescription, and, of course, the frames you choose.

This should get you pointed in the right direction.

I have used, in the past the standard TOP CHAROEN OPTICAL ... standard chain.

The Branch I went to was on Sukhumvit Rd between Soi's 11 and 13.

Just where the concrete overpass bridge empties onto the footpath.

BTS is NANA

Heaps of clothes stalls there so have to keep your eye out and closer to Soi 11.

So many factors to consider.

Glass lens or plastic.

Coated or not.

The big money is in the Frames and haggle a lot, smile a lot and haggle some more.

As for progressive I use mine only for reading/computer work and that did take a little explaining.

Turnaround time was a day assuming that you go there at the open 10 or 10.30 am from memory and either come back later that night or the next day.

When ever I have had a problem with them, say one of the eye rests corroded and fell off, I just present the case (with their branding) and smile and they repair for free.

Same when I sat on them, smiled, repaired for free, returned with a little chocolate for a thank you and they always take care of me.

I did go for the cheaper option of the plastic lens and no issues apart from when I've dropped the glasses on a hard surface, the edge chipped a little.

Hope that helps ...

I've had good luck with PHASU PAIBOON OPTICAL, 511/11 Petchbury Rd., about a 10 minute walk from Ratchathewie BTS (Moto B30) on the left side.

I had custom reading glasses made there last year for less than B2000. I need a strong prescription and getting a thin profile lens and decent frames was a deal at that price.

This year, they made me a pair of progressives. I had gotten the prescription and a pair in the US but I wanted a lightly tinted back-up. They carry a good selection of budget frames and I was able to get the glasses for B7000. Just last week I took a friend there who wanted new progressive lenses matched to his existing frame. They were able to do that and he was very satisfied with their work. I think he paid B6500.

They have an in-house optician who gives a thorough exam for no extra charge.

My last pair of 1.67 progressive anti reflective coated with frame 212114 from Zenni (mail order) with clip on sunglasses was here in 7 days for $107. The 3rd time I have used them and very happy with product. Got very tired of what I considered rip off prices from local chains. But of course you need to know your prescription to use this method.

Great suggestion, I notice on their website that even the most expensive frames I like are 50% cheaper than here, but what are the shipping costs like and how do they get them here in 7 days?

I've had stuff sent from UK that has cost more in postage than the items cost so in this case if it was the same it might not be worth it.
