Chalerm if you want to show where the biggest problem is-go and smack the top Thai police chief right accross the kisser. Then go back to some top government and do the same.

Did he say he is going to get rid rid of politicians that say ridiculous things withing 3 months...

Which then begs the question, how are they going to get 2 trillion baht from tourists within five years without extorting them? Surely they need mafias for that? Also do Thais realize westerners can no longer afford the long flight to Thailand for holidays since there is a recession on and money is tight? This seems a more realistic assessment?

Sorry to correct a bit. Most people? You sure mean most farang people. Politics is not a Thai word so most Thais have actually no clue what's been said. Thai people are more concerned who slaps who and which nasty bitch hit's which servant in tomorrows soap opera.

"Attending the one-hour meeting were the governors of Phuket, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Sukhothai, Tak and Kanchanaburi."

they were at a mafia meeting but the gov't failed to show up...

He's on a roll. Does he think Thai tourism growth is handicapped on a macro basis by jet ski rentals and rip off taxis in Phuket? He's threatening an "or else' visit to Phuket, if "they" can't clean it up. What will he do if they can't and he does? He proposes to "handle" this himself. This must mean he will "cut the skim." One reading this story can assume nothing else.

Clowns? Egg on their face? Did they arrive honking the horn in an old jalopy where the doors fell off and then commence throwing buckets of confetti around? biggrin.png

Come to think of it in the Twilight Zone-esque world of Thai politics nothing would surprise me any more.

Signs posting the allowed rates for beach chairs, jet ski's insurance for the ski's etc. need to be posted every so many meters on the beach and patrol by well marked staff.

Start by going after the police that rent the prime scam spots to scam taxi drivers.

Every hotel has a gang of scam taxies parked out front. The refuse fares and are there to scam only. The are criminals that pose as taxi drivers, colluding with Police.

My last stay in Bangkok I could not even get a ride on Suk Soi 18 & 20.

Approached by scammers up and down the entire Soi.

If you can get past the scam taxies to Sukhumvit Rd. be prepared to be intercepted by well dressed Thais, pretending to be passing by, just wanting to help a tourist..... These scammers are on the corner every day in plain site, doing this for years. I have seen them speaking with Police...This happens all over town.

To use a quote from Winston Churchill

every time he speaks he decreases the sum total of human knowledge

The Thai guy said, "We want Spitfires and we want tanks and we want Vickers guns. And Winnie is sitting there smoking his cigar nodding off. The Thai guy says, "If we don't get em we are going to declare war against the UK." Winston sitting there drinking brandy and smoking his cigar, thinking, "never happen."

Bender #64. Did you mean my post was schizophrenic, if you did you really have to believe this is not a done thing--but the idea sounds fun--because someone needs a shake up for not doing the job they are paid for. In Chalerms case not keeping to his word until -job completed.

Wooo Hoo - been waiting for this clown to pop up and give us a laugh for ages.

All becomes clear though. They want to clear away the mafia who are taking the money BECAUSE "He said the government wants to increase revenue from tourism to Bt2 trillion within five years". Now, it does not say where the 2 trillion is going to go does it. Perhaps they actually mean into the pockets of the politicians?

Thought as much - Welcome back Chalerm; missed ya.

Seems Thaksin's Bangkok traffic -promise speech writer was let out of his cell for a bit

and is working for Chalerm until they catch him and put himback in the rubber room,

for living in fantasy land and refusing to ever leave to view reality.

Thank god he is back !!!!! It has been a while since his last moronic statement , which is always the stuff of mirth here on TV. Instead of these sweeping grandiose proclamations , how about a realistic time line ( three months to get rid of something that was 50 years in the making... ? ),

a clear path of how he is going to do it , and then follow up to see effectiveness..

For my eyes the police and the mafia are one and the same, so that fact alone makes his statement a bit absurd. In essence he is asking the police to step back from the feeding trough.....

I would like to see;

"Chalerm vows that HiSo Honda Driver's court case will not be settled out of court even though she is the daughter of one of his close friends. He also has asked the police to reinvestigate the murder committed by his son and demands he faces justice as well."

By the way, some might argue that in his picture at the press conference, he has a rather ruddy complexion, sweating profusely, and a bit bleary eyed. Some might say that he had come up with this proposal of a few bottles of claret again.

Thailand's tourism-related mafias are doing such big business nowadays that most of them have been able to register on the Stock Exchange.
