Chalerm Vows To Get Rid Of Mafia In Thai Tourism Businesses Within 3 Month

Featured Replies

It is a step forward allbeit a small one. At least he is admitting there is a problem.

In fairness he says we will see an improvement in three months.

We all know to irradicate the tourist mafia he would need a bigger mafia.

I can see farang leaving here in their masses in the near future. The recent attacks etc have tipped the scales. The danger has started to outweigh the freedom.

How is he going to get rid of the mafia when a majority of the people support corruption if they think they will get some benefit from it? The majority in this case is the police.

I guess since he was so successful in eradicating the gambling dens in Bangkok in just 3 days, he's needing something new to with all that free time. wub.png

"For years these mafia scum have been taking kickbacks that are rightfully mine! I will fix this!"

"Attending the one-hour meeting were the governors of Phuket, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Sukhothai, Tak and Kanchanaburi."

where was the Pattaya governors...???

Oh they were in Samui picking up their share of the profits from the taxi meter drivers

If he gets rid of all the mafia groups, who is he going to put in police uniforms when they're gone?

The Russians !!! w00t.gif

remember this is the guy that has a son who shot to death a policeman in a crowded night club with many witnesses and the son walked.

is today 23rd June or 1st April ???????????????????????

Look at the bigger picture guys.

The mafia need the tourists just as much as the businesses do.

So all he's got to do is to pay them enough to lay low for a few months so it looks like they've gone away - problem "solved" in the traditional Thai way.

Always the 1st of April in Thai politics

C'mon, let's give the man some credit. Of course we all know getting rid of tourist mafia cannot be done in 3 months and most likely not in 200 years. They are integral part of the system like the branch is part of the tree. The prevailing culture of privilege/patronage would have to change first and the corruption in police force and Thai politics would have to be eradicated next. That would also mean that Thailand stop being a feudal country that it is now, and there's a long long road ahead for that to happen. But, at least someone is acknowledging the problem and the acknowledgment of a problem IS the first step of solving it.

Was he drunk... again?

No! He is naturally stupid. or unless he meant he would get rid of his sons... that would help anyway.

C'mon, let's give the man some credit.................... But, at least someone is acknowledging the problem and the acknowledgment of a problem IS the first step of solving it.

Unfortunately, Chalerm is (part of) the problem, not the solution.

Most of the topics here today and yesterday concern certain types of corruption. The digital tv scam with TRUE. The 18 year old that killed 9 people with her car. Breast painting on tv. Jutaporn suing one court with another. Explanation of EC's vote against anything or for something. Motorcycle gangs killing tourists. Cover ups by Thai police. This is what I have been reading for the past 48 hours on Thaivisa. My goodness should people not demand that these ongoing things get taken care before we go after the 10 baht per incident bottom feeders like Tuks Tuks and Jet ski operators and beach chair sellers. This is not about corruption it IS about looking good for the public that does not care. Most of the Thais want to know where they are going to get the money to pay their electric bill so they can watch tv. If you really want to stop corruption, then you KNOW REALLY WHERE TO START. In the offices right across the hall if not your own.

the Mafia gangs can come to pattaya as the governor of pattaya was no included.in the talks ....

As long as they make a brutal start against brutality it's ok. They always make it sound very pretty we know by now.

Is he for sure? There are a few good man, maybe mostly in BKK but i don't know anything about this "name."

Chalerm spoke of the threat posed by mafia gangs in tourist destination towns following a meeting with tourist police, senior officials from the Tourism and Sports Ministry and governors of tourist-destination provinces at the Royal Thai Police headquarters. Attending the one-hour meeting were the governors of Phuket, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Sukhothai, Tak and Kanchanaburi. Representatives from the Land Transport Department and the Harbour Department also attended the meeting.

Sly. Very sly. The wily old bugger has rounded the biggest culprits up in one room on the pretext of a "meeting" laugh.png

They all went for a good drink afterwards and had a real meeting so there is no worries about there future.

if someone cannot sue themselves then how can someone eradicate oneself.

If hes talking the (scoff) truth, he will be eradicated soon, powerful people dont take to extermination threats, unless of course hes already sent a memo to the crime bosses to play the game for a few months

He was meeting with the eastside families.

Well I guess he is after reading all respons hahaha

Well at least he's talking to the right people, these guys are the countries leading experts on the mafia.sick.gif

Oh that means 90% of police will sit in prison, and he recruits new police for 350000bt each head?

I think it is important to remember that Thailand has been around for a long time, it has dealt with a multitude of social and ethical issues and is still here doing very well.

If Chalerm decides to actually implement these ideas and has the backing of the elite power structure within the Kingdom then I believe he could easily do so.

Some of the meanest mfkers on the planet reside right here in Thailand and I would not want to be the dark influence or “Russian” crime lord that went up against the kingdom, I have done time in Thai prisons and they are filled with people who pissed someone off….

So I guess the best plan of attack is to lay low for 3 months thus giving the impression that the problem has evaporated and then it's back to business as usual. Sounds like the meeting with the family heads will achieve a good outcome for all.

I sprinkled this article on my garden and it grew better.

Pot........Kettle............Black........... This isn't the same massage parlour Chalerm is it? There's got to be quite a nice mafia element to run soapies.

I don't have the survey results, but as you know, most Thais don't really care about corruption. As long as they benefit from it, they are OK with it. Crazy.
