How long to drive from CM to Chiang Saen ?- I arrive at the CM airport at 9:45 and pickup a hire car and I want to get to CS asap to see my wonderful wife and children

With a 10min coffee stop you'll be there in 3-4 hours depending on traffic, roadworks, accidents, buffalo etc

Exactly! Just say you'll be there mid afternoon and you get there earlier it'll be a nice surprise.

If your flight arrives at 9.45 you could be leaving CM about 11.00 so mid-afternoon in Chiang Saen, easy!

Be best to sleep over in CM. There is xtensive poorly marked roadworks from CR to Chiangsaen. Night driving isa also much more dangerous and you will be tired.

I would rethink that especially as you have not driven the route. Night is the time for the heavily loaded very dangerous trucks to monopolise the road.

Thanks for the concern mate, I will just have to be careful as she misses me a lot - so if I get too tired or it looks too dangerous I will stop over somewhere

I agree with Harry, overnight in CM then leave bright and early the next morning? Where are you flying from? Couldn't you have flown into CR?

Get the little woman to meet you in Chiang Mai. Have an uninhibited and uninterrupted reunion in a nice hotel.wub.png Spend a little quality time before you are swallowed up by the mass of humanity awaiting you in the village.

The wife and I have done the same in Bangkok and it really worked out great for both of us. Just another option.thumbsup.gif

Was going to do that but with the kids and all - it is easier for me to get here and wake up in me home

I used to fly from Melbourne to Sao Paulo regularly some 29 hours elapsed - so the Asian trips are short haul

Thanks O

Nice cheap flights and I was going to hire a car anyway as I need to get my cases to Yonok - saves me the stopover in Chiang Rai/Mai, the bus to Chiang Saen and the Tuk to Yonok (Tuk to Yunok , could be a song in that :)).

I am going to pickup furnature the next day in Mae Sai so it all seemed to make sense.

'kor jai' eh! I love that place and I have had the sausage as well mmmmm - great prices as well
