Apparently this move will take effect October 1 according to their website, and they say that they are "currently working with Airports of Thailand to provide free shuttle service to Suvarnaphumi Airport". I wonder if anyone has heard any more than this and just how "free" this shuttle would be moneywise, timewise, and especially if it is reliable and "trouble" free.... Being 45Km apart, cost of a Taxi would be significant, and the hassle of using one distasteful.

Since most of their business is Thai, and not many of them have need of International flights (from the new airport only), I cannot fault them for moving and leaving us Expats in the lurch if it is cheaper for them and would not cost them significant business otherwise. But it looks to put a kink in coordinating/connecting to International flights.

Also, I wonder if anyone has good info on any other airline going Chaing Rai to BKK and back.

Are there precedents, anywhere in the world, where an airline operates its international services from one airport and its domestic services from another?

The main point is that the shuttle between the airports counts as a legal obligation for Air Asia to get you to your connection in time, taking into consideration the transport by road, check-in, immigration, customs.

It will not be possible to do immigration and customs at your domestic departure any more. If Airports of Thailand are responsible for the shuttle bus service, they can create a "transit" shuttle service: the passengers in the shuttle bus are already in transit (outside Thailand). Are there any precedents?

A couple of mates were in Moscow a while back, they flew in from the East and didn't realise there was another airport for West bound traffic on the other side of the city.

When they went to leave after a few days sightseeing, their taxi took them to the wrong airport.

On finding out the problem they rushed to the taxi rank where all the drivers, fully aware of their problem, demanded US$500 to take them to the other airport.

I don't think the Thais have quite reached that level yet.

Air Asia are only operating from DM Their international flights will depart from there as well as domestics

All my international flights require overnighting in Bangkok anyway, so for me Don Muang is just fine. We have friends out that way, too, so easier to get picked up. I suppose if you are one of those people who try to avoid Bangkok at all cost it could be a pain, however. We quite enjoy visiting friends for a couple of days in Bangkok.smile.png

There are already two bus services running between the airports. 45 minutes travel 35 Baht 24 hour service

My wife and I have used this Bus Service twice and it is very frequent and Express with I think only 2 stops. Good buses and not the old bangers. Good value.

Hi Big Gary & my friend I:

You mentioned 2 bus services leaving Don Muang. Can you provide the bus no #s? Are they air conditioned? Can I bring a carry on sized luggage onto this type of bus? We are three people with 3 carry on luggage.

Do you have any info on the airport shuttle buses? Cost, frequency?

I will be going to Bangkok in October and am trying to figure out how to get to Siam area for my stay. I'm a bit concerned about taxis since I've read in other forums that the driver might use the meter but can still ask to re-negotiate the rate after he starts to drive. Or you negotiate a fix price and renegotiation can occur again in the middle of the journey.

Thank you in advance for your help.

bangkokairportonline.com has all the bus info

554 & I think 555 run between Rangsit & Suwanapoom. You have to go out to the road to catch the bus.. The buses run regularly daytime less often at night. The longest I have waited is 15 minutes. Its clean, a/c & friendly staff. Plenty of room for your bags. Thai people who used to work at Don Muang take these buses to work at the new airport. Its very easy.

When more services start at Don Muang there will be a shuttle bus from the terminal. I think that is 1st October.

If you take 999 VIP, it will cost 1k THB + from airport to the bus terminal another 200 or so. Why not just take Airasia/Oriental to CR just afew hundred more and save a lot of your time.

Thank you both my friend I and CP3.

Just wanted some clarification.

What is CR in CP3's reply?

"Why not just take Airasia/Oriental to CR just afew hundred more and save a lot of your time."

Our flight will arrive around 4pm so will be in traffic. Concerned that bus will not allow us to get on with carry-on luggages.

Just wanted to know what's the best way for me (party of 3) to get from Don Muang airport to downtown Siam square area (trying to reach Vista Residence Bangkok). Which bus? Private airport express bus & dropped off where? Limousine service?

Welcome everyone's advice/suggestion. Thanks again.

sorry..I was referring for bkk <->ChiangRai(CR).

Since there are 3 persons, just go up to departure hall and go out, there are a lot of taxi, make it quick as they are supposed to drop off only. Approx +/-300THB + 70THB Toll.

Interesting to note there is no wheelchair accessible transport between the two. And Bangkock does NOT have accessible taxis available anywhere either.

I hadn’t thought about that Harrry. It must make travel for you extremely difficult.

Flying Chiang Rai to Australia I usually allow myself about 4 hours for the BKK transfer, that's getting the early afternoon Air Asia flight for an early evening international departure.

I'm not quite sure I want to factor a cross town bus trip into that....

Investigate cnx-sin on silkair.....may be better to do the bus trip here. tip do seperate tickets to sin and then to australia as they charge more for the straight through on both thai and singapore airlines.

I'm not sure that sitting on the bus to CM would do much to enhance the quality of the trip Harrry, it's a pain in the butt now... literally and figuratively.

I'll probably pay the extra for Thai airways out of CR.

I do like the Singapore link though because SAL flies direct into my former home city.
