Featured Replies

Nipha Nirannut, the head of the Passport Office Chiang Mai said Consular Affairs under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will officially open a foreign affairs office in Chiang Rai on 3rd September at Chiang Rai Provincial Stadium.

This is a temporary office, awaiting a new office that will be finished in 2013 at Chiang Rai Administrative Organisation Office.

The Foreign Affairs Office will provide services including passport services and immigration services. People from Chiang Rai will now be saved the journey into Chiang Mai.

Immigration office in Mae Sai has mentioned that annual extension of stay can/is to be given in "other" office(s) again in the future (for Chiang Rai and Phayao residents only).

"The Foreign Affairs Office will provide services including passport services and immigration services." Does this mean that foreign passport holders can visit this office for visa extensions, extensions of stay, 90 days reporting,...? Immigration services provided in Central Plaza will they now be stopped?

With tomorrow being the first saturday of September perhaps someone could put your questions to the Mae Sai officials at Central Plaza. They may or may not have the final word but they may have the most recent update.smile.png

I have been told that the immigration service at Central will continue for the present but you can check with them tomorrow at Central.

Not sure what service will be available to foreigners at the new Foreign affairs Office but I wll post them when I find out.

Having seen several people availing themselves of the immigration service and Central the other day I felt certain someone would be along with an update. Always the optimist.wink.png

Was in Mae Sai today and doing my 90 days rapport-and have told my wife to ask them about this new office.

The officer completely ignore the question-and keep telling us about Central Plaza each mont-I got the feeling, that he had never heard about it.

Took the familly to Chiang Rai today to apply for their Thai passports. It appears that it is only for Thai passports. We arrived before 9.30 and we were the first customers. The sign on the door says 0830 to 1630. Just after we arrived many others followed. They have 3 counters for processing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All the staff I saw were female except for the man who took your money. We were out by 10am. Had copies of docs and photos but were not required. They scans original docs and take their own photos. Passports will be posted in a week.

Nice to have a report of an actual visit to this location. Thanks for taking the time to inform us.

Where is this office?

it is Chiang Rai Provincial Stadium. You drive through the main gate and proceed direct to a small roundabout. Right turn to the next T intersection. Right again and first right into car park The office is there. Not far from the entrance. I hope this helps.

I read somewhere that a new office would open somewhere else in 2013. Does any one have any further info? I don't know Chang rai. We will make the trip next week for mini break and son's passport so updated information appreciated. Thanks.

Just to close this one off. The passport office can be located on the RH side of the stadium main (school) entrance in a tiny office behind the visible big building. Good car parking off to the right. The govt officials (all loverly girls and ladies) were fantastic and very very patient as baby did not want his photo taken for some considerable period of 5-10 minutes! He is only 4 months old! We arrived in the office at 0912 hrs and departed the car park at 0945 hrs. Job done. Fantastic service. Passport will be sent to home address by EMS.
