The Stones released their double-LP, Exile On Main Street, in '72.  Rocks Off from that superb LP.

You made the claim that '72 was a great year in British music, Andrew.  I'm just providing support for that claim just so no one can ever call you a liar.  LOL  This can be an endless task, though!

Pink Floyd came out with their 7th LP, Obscured By Clouds, in '72.  What's Uh The Deal off of that LP.

A greatly underrated album, actually a soundtrack for a French film, that produced some good numbers.

Here’s Childhoods End from the same album.

Although this was released in 1971 it featured on the number one album Fog on the Tyne which peaked in 1972 ( poetic license [emoji51]).

Lindisfarne - Meet me on the corner.

While the Concert For Bangladesh took place on 1st of August '71 the three-disc album was not released until January of '72 (at least in the U.K.).  Bangladesh off of it.

John Lennon performed live at Madison Square Garden on the 30th of August '72.  The LP wasn't released until '86.

He also released a studio album, Some Time In New York City, that same year.

Yes, I think we’ve established that 1972 was an excellent year to be a music lover !!

I was only 11 so did not reap the benefit at the time !!

Slade and T Rex were top of the pops in ‘72 but this one I particularly remember singing along in the playground !
