Fire Breaks Out at Plastic Pipe Factory in Samut Sakhon, Damages Workers’ Dormitories
Pictures from responders. A fire broke out at a plastic pipe manufacturing facility in the Kratai District of Samut Sakhon on the afternoon of February 6. The blaze, which began around 14:00 engulfed a large stack of plastic waste outside the factory and the workers’ dormitories. The factory, located at No. 127, Moo 4, Tambon Krai, is known for producing HDPE plastic pipes and fittings for plumbing systems, as well as PE steel-reinforced ducts for electrical cables. Local fire services, along with neighbouring municipal authorities, volunteer rescue teams, and local foundations, rushed to the scene with more than 10 fire trucks and supporting water tankers. The fire caused extensive damage to the workers’ accommodation, which houses foreign migrant labourers, along with a large pile of plastic waste outside the building. Firefighters worked for about 50 minutes to control the blaze, preventing further spread to other areas of the factory. Initial investigations reveal that the fire likely started in the dormitory area before rapidly spreading through adjacent rooms. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities, though the financial damage from the fire is still being assessed by relevant authorities. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with officers from the Samut Sakhon Forensic Science Unit set to examine the scene to determine the exact cause. -- 2025-02-07 -
