Google To Unveil Android 4.2, Nexus 4 Phone, Nexus 10 Tablet

Featured Replies

I think you will find that, since the very first Google Nexus device, expandable memory via a USD card has never, ever been an option. One should not really expect this to change, and if expandable memory is a requirement then obviously you should not purchase a Nexus device.

For the most part, Nexus devices tend be more widely available in the base configuration - it can be challenging to find the larger memory--sized models, except peprhaps via a service provider or on eBay.

I guess Apple IPad's also don't have external storage expansion...whatever memory you buy in the base configuration is it. Here's a link that compares three top end tablets with high resolution displays, the Nexus 10, IPad4, and Asus Transformer TF700, in an easy to compare column format. Only the Asus comes with expandable memory slot. Link

Nexus 7 usb otg works everything except storage expansion.

You cant increase storage unless you hack something or root it.

Yes you can. No need to root your Nexus 7 for that.

Just install Nexus Media Importer

and you can connect USB Keys and other USB devices likes USK external disk :)

I don't mind having a WiFI-only tablet - for those times when I do need mobile broadband I just create a Mobile AP with my phone . I just can justify managing a second SIM, and I surely don't want to be swapping it in/out of my phone - that seems idiotic?

No managing or swapping. AIS Multi SIM service gets you a second SIM on the same number. They can share the same data pool. And if you want to switch which device is active for making and receiving calls, there's a USSD code to switch which one is activated.

Dtac do a second sim with just data services - both use your existing internet allocation but only the primary sim can make calls.

Sadly the second sim cannot be used for roaming - a 32GB Nexus 10 would tempt me.

The second sim also can't be used to send sms. I really can't imagine why - you'd think a phone company would be overjoyed if its customers spent more money.

But there is a monthly price to pay for those multisims. I think DTAC charges B250 plus a B20 fee in sharing your smartphone data package. And with AIS it cost B300 plus the B20 fee, but you get an extra 1GB of data....see this Link

Here's a Link to a Thai blog that attempts to compare the AIS and DTAC multisim plans/costs. Link Google Translate is your friend on this link.

OK, I'll stipulate that all service providers offer multiple SIMs (up to 5) on one number/account and that they also offer multiple numbers on one single SIM.

Veering wildly back on topic.

This video shows some capabilities of the USB OTG function.

Google's Nexus 10: Hands-on impressions

By JR Raphael

.

Google's Nexus lineup is growing larger than ever this year -- both in numbers and in size.

Yesterday, I took a detailed first look at the Nexus 4, the new pure Google Android phone made by LG. Today, it's time to turn our attention to the other fresh face in Google's gaggle: the Nexus 10, a 10.1-inch tablet made by Samsung and marking Google's first foray into large-screen Nexus territory. The tablet goes on sale directly from Google starting November 13; it'll cost $400 for a 16GB version or $500 for the 32GB model.

Did anyone see a Nexus 7 around Pattaya? When I asked around at Central no one had it.

I installed it on my ICS Tab 10.1 - not all functions appear to work but I only had a quick play with it

Theverge nexus 10 hands on preview shows a very laggy, unresponsive tablet experience on web browser.

For the camera I use jb 4.2. I would assume it has to be rooted. It is a pk file, so it may install without root.

A couple of quotes pulled from the Extreme Tech article:

It does seem to pull ahead of the pack in some browser benchmarks, though. For what it’s worth, reviewers all say that the Nexus 10 is very snappy — so it’s probably not worth paying too close heed to the benchmarks.

Really, though, when you remember that the Nexus 10 starts at just $400, we probably shouldn’t be so picky. I just can’t help but wonder if the Nexus 10 would actually be a better tablet if the screen was slightly less preposterous and the CPU was clocked a little slower.

This review might sum it up:

Nexus 10 tablet is a solid choice for the price

Google's latest tablet, the high-end Nexus 10, performed well for the price but not enough to brag about to friends.

For $100 more the new new iPad (IPad 4) might be a better solution for some - assuming you are comfortable with that 'eco system'? Google still doesn't have enough Tablet apps - they've acknowledged this publicly and are trying to get more developer support for Tablet apps - so if apps are what drive your HW requirements the Nexus 10 might not be the best solution? So many of the Google apps are designed for smaller phone screens, and while they might scale to the Note-ish size (~ 5.3) they may not be able to take advantage of some of these newer 10.1 tablets?

They can't use Apple patented design anymore, can they? smile.png

"patented design"! - but not original.Idea is taken from Movado Museum Watch(display with golden dot) - more then half a century old.

In the interim to ease the itching I just may buy a 4,000 baht Chinese tablet...and just pass along the low cost Chinese tablet to an in-law (earn some brownie points) once I get the Nexus 10. Then again, I may find out the 4,000 baht Chinese tablet meets my "real" needs....but the Nexus 10 sure looks like it would satisfy my "wants" also.

You can - Shenzen came with 10inch retina tablets already!

has anyone seen the lg nexus 4 for sale anywhere yet? looked at siamphone and thaimobilecenter and they don't list any sellers yet (that i can tell).

edit: actually i just checked lg thailand's site and it's not even listed, so i guess that answers my question sad.png

Seeing as how the Google release day is the 13th of this month for USA and UK. Unlikely to find it here.
