I am building a new roof for my carport, which already has the four pillars, and a concrete square 'ring' on top. So it would be just be case of building a steel frame, securing in place with some rawbolts, and then just fixing the roof tiles which will be 150mm x 50mm. The area of the roof is 3.5 x 4.5. So 15.75 square metres in total.

So would labour costs per meter should I expect?

Come on guys, you must have some ideas?

I was thinking 2 thai men for 2 days, the most difficult part would be welding, and fixing the frame, which I estimate at a day for 2 men, then they would have an 'easy' 2nd day just fixing about 30 tiles (150mmx50mm each in size), which would only require at most 2 fixings in each.

First you never said what area

Out in the middle of no where with the local builder maybe 300 a day per person. Welder maybe slightly more. Bangkok or ogther larger city more, much more

Did you have all the tools, ladders and equipment ? Finding someone with that may cost more

Did you speak Fluent Thai or will your wife do all the talking and you will be out of town while the work is done ?

Are the materails all on site or do they need a truck to get them and fuel cost

Here most roofers quote a price in Chiang Mai not a day labor price

With all the building going on here, anyone good who stands behind their work is more costly and busy. I recently hired 2 guys I know I can count on they were 3500 per day for the two of them but have a truck and all the equipment

if it is just 2 easy days do it yourself and save. If you want a good roof done, call some roofers and get a price (or 3 or 4) and go that route

Fix brackets with rawlbolts to concrete.

Drill and bolt the steel and fix battens with self drill screws.

30 tiles @ 150mm x 50mm would take me about 15 mins.biggrin.pnglaugh.png

You are welcome to come and do it, and I will buy you A beer smile.png

Seriously though, I am thinking of getting the welding done offsite, which would mean probably mean 8 frames in a triangular shape, and indeed do it myself!

Well !! if you want to go with welding ok.

If it's 3.5m long 7 frames will be enough and good idea to fix some diagonal braces in.

I figure that I will need 14 lenghts of steel, and 30 tiles, so with the fixings and miscellaneous parts the materials will be around 7000 baht.

Had some quotes in !

first one was 165000!!! in all though laugh.png

next was 65000 cheesy.gif

next 3 quotes from the same builder

27000 (getting near the mark now)

then got 24000

and finally 16000 with all materials suppied

I think 15000 is the price, which would be a laour cost of 4000 baht a day (2 men, 2 days)

Not going to mess around for that price though
