National Rifle Association Calls For Armed Guards In U S Schools

You have to look at the source of this "news". Not known for balanced reporting, just for whipping their main demographic into a frenzy. Trust me, it's not difficult either.

If the school does NOT have armed guards, please post a link to support your attack on the source.

Although you may not be in favor of it...but you see the difference between the President or his daughter and "normal" people, don't you?

I'm in favor of armed guards for EVERY child, not just the privileged few.

Oh yeah I forgot!

Nothing says "freedom" better and louder than armed patrols in schools, malls, cinemas, market squares.....

So you may be, but what about the rest of the parents who don't want to increase the risk of shootouts at their schools - they want to decrease it.

Ah yes, socialism when it suits - who is going to fund it?

suppose we should be arming fire fighters as well?

The NRAs position is basically a smoke screen.

Fight the gun problem by adding more guns.

For the Land of the free there must be an increasing number of the population starting to live in fear of being gunned down

Excuse # 37 for men who want to feel more manly by owning a big gun:

There is an innate urge in many of our species to kill large animals. Most of us have moved up the evolutionary ladder, but still many get a kick out of shooting a large vegetarian beast with a rifle. It's a similar to those who carve fins off sharks, and let them bob in the sea until they die of blood loss. Big game hunters, when they get old, often realize the stupidity of their earlier daze of killing beasts "for sport." My question to them is: Why didn't you fathom their stupidity when they were younger? Some of us gain wisdom in our 20' 30's 40's. Animal shooters may get a modicum of wisdom in their 60s or beyond.

Exactly.

Guys using rifles with telescopic sights to shoot an animal who is not even aware he's a target is not my idea of sport either.

Please pay attention. I have already proposed a solution to the funding on this forum.

There are normally armed police officers at any sort of house fire. I don't know where they were in the latest incident.

DonN/Chicog, personally I consider your posts as troll posts and do not choose to respond to them, in accordance with forum rule number 5.

The enemy would be crazy people with guns killing people ........ Armed good people is not an unreasonable solution to armed bad people.

What a great idea more guns that should stop the killing Duh!!

There are 300 million guns in circulation in the USA. The bad guys are always going to be able to find guns unless they ban guns 100% and destroy every gun out there. I very much the government will do that.

So why not have armed guards at schools? Crazies are not stupid. You never hear of massacres at a police station do you? They always soft targets like schools which are no gun zones. Psychos and criminals aren't going to follow the rules and not attack 'no gun zones'.

And don't forget to send a SWAT team to every fire reported now!!!! Where does it stop , let me think STOP the GUNS.

Banning guns would work. No one has guns, no one gets shot. Problem is there's no way they're ever going to have a 100% ban on guns in America. So they put up some half assed gun control laws which never work because bad guys don't follow the law!

I read about how brave the teachers who died that day were. How Vicki Soto and others gave their lives protecting their students. They must have really loved their kids to do that.

Now imagine if they had a gun in their hand on that day. I have no doubt one of them would have put a few rounds in that psycho and probably saved some lives.

That's a great idea teachers with guns, hang on what about mail men and paper boys, taxi drivers, nurses, doctors and, and

Yeah right

Did anyone so far think about the following scenario?

A crazy shooter enters a classroom and opens fire (might take out the teacher first, before the teacher can even shot ones) and a teacher ACCIDENTALLY shoots a child!

Do you want to be that teacher? How do you justify, what just happened to you? "Okay I saved 20 children...so the one I killed is somehow okay?"

Haven't you watched 'The Terminator'? tongue.png Crazies are not stupid indeed. They just start with the armed guard, and have one more gun.

You're right. Having a single guard isn't perfect but it sure beats having no guard at all.

Not as well as having no guns!!!!! smile.png

My buddy is a volunteer fireman in Texas. There's absolutely NO truth to what you claim to be 'normal' with regard to the presence of armed police officers. They may come along beforehand or shortly but in general, the FD is the 'first responder'.

That's true. Tell me then, how do you get round up the 300 million guns in circulation in the United States now? Gun control isn't going to prevent criminals and crazy people from ILLEGALLY obtaining one of the 300 million guns out there.

Leave the guns alone, but restrict the access to/production of ammunition - just as is done in the production and distribution of drugs/pharma.

You're absolutely right. With the 300 million guns out there, let's just wait for the next school massacre to happen. And then we can once again grieve for the dead children while praising the heroic actions of a few brave teachers who gave their lives saving their students.

Personally, I would prefer a teacher live to tell the tale of how he or she put a couple of rounds in the crazy who tried to kill her kids.

It would actually be a great victory for the hardcore NRA membership if they could get armed guards in place at every school in the USA, perhaps along with all shopping malls, theaters, childrens play areas, in fact any area where children might be found in numbers. After all, if children grow up surrounded by armed guards it'll help install the paranoia that attack is imminent and no doubt they'll all grow up wanting to be armed to the teeth themselves.

That's different and you know it.

The point of legally having a gun is to defend against a criminal using illegal guns. Making it difficult for law abiding citizens to buy a gun legally won't make it any harder for a criminal to get his illegally.

Little Johnny grows up dreaming of one day being a lauded hero by saving friends, family and acquaintances from threatening gunman wielding weapons at the ready. Johnny dreams of the accolades and the interviews and the fame. But these opportunities don't come around easily or often and Johnny is having difficulty getting himself into a position where he can wallow in that fame and that praise. Oh well, have to settle for the fame/infamy them - school shooting. Probably each shooter dreams of being the lone hero - the one who stops the bad guy with the gun by being the good guy with the gun.

Noooooo...YOU are right! Let's stack up the 300 million guns to 600 million and everybody will be safe!

How do we stop criminals from illegally exceding the speed limit on our highways? Precisely, we can't. So we shouldn't have, or shouldn't try to enforce, speed limits. It's obvious.

Well, now we part clearly. I reckon that making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to buy guns legally would make it more difficult for a criminal to get a gun legally AND illegally. Just as making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to get their hands on opiates makes it more difficult for criminals to get their hands on opiates legally AND illegally.

Complete bullshit example. What you're describe is mental illness. So now we're blaming guns for mental illness! Haha

Little Johnny is a product of his society. By arguing that the only way of addressing the issue of mass shootings at schools etc is by having more armed people it's effectively admitting that the societal issues are beyond repair.

I'd say you are far more likely to be killed by a professional bandit if you are armed rather than unarmed. I'd rather lose my wallet than my life. Good people who own guns better know how to use them and are not afraid to kill - but how many good guys really want to kill? Surely only if your life or the life of your loved ones is at stake.

A society producing a significant minority of people who do argue that way may well be beyond repair.

Reason says they do, you say they don't. Pretty easy choice really. But, it's seldom possible to reason someone out of that which they were never reasoned into in the first place.

Yes that's true. Look at you.

Sounds like a reasonable idea to me. There's 300 million guns in circulation in the United States. There are 150 million of us gun owners in the United States. "Ridding" the U.S. of guns is simply not going to happen. There's too many of us.

Some of us happen to support the U.S. 2nd Amendment.

I love how people who are not from the United States, don't live in the United States, and have no connection with the United States like to spout their opinions of what United States laws should be. If you do not like the laws of the United States then don't come to the United States.

Stop selling ammo to everyone.

I will never go to the US
