Hilton Buffet Update

 

Edge is (apparently) only open Saturday and Sunday. Today's breakfast  buffet was served in the Horizon rooftop  restaurant. Buffet not as extensive as yesterday, but the view pretty much make up for it, at least in my opinion...

Are we talking about looking at an empty plate where the previous day it had various items of food on it or something else?

The view in Cheap Charlies may not be to your liking but the 89 baht breakfast is worth taking a look at

I'm not sure I understand your question. On Sunday the buffet was served in the Edge restaurant, and was quite extensive. Today, the buffet was served in the Horizon restaurant, but while still good, was less extensive.

 

I don't doubt I would enjoy both the view and the 89 baht breakfast at Cheap Charlie's. The only thing I enjoy more than a cheap breakfast is a free breakfast, or better perhaps a free breakfast with a a cheap date...

Long ago I posted about this restaurant in house and concluded that they have some good food but complained about their high prices. Yes my feeling was that its overpriced for what you get.

 

For examples kung pao chicken and mapo tofu both at 260.

 

Hungry Now used to feature the decent and well priced Chengdu Sichuan restaurant but that's apparently been long closed.

 

So <deleted> Man Lou is their new option in that space. 

 

I sampled their menu on some orders and overall thought that their food was mostly  pretty good. Better for my taste than the previously mentioned Tai Chin which I have been ordering via Lineman.

 

As is sadly typical with Pattaya Sichuan restaurants their Sichuan peppercorns are weak and not fresh enough. 

 

They do have some dishes you don't often see such as so called Chinese pork hamburgers in house made pastry. 80. A good variety of noodles with sauces which are priced OK. 100 to 150.

 

I did try their fish filet slices in chili oil mini hot pot for 480. Thats a market price for that dish here but I was disappointed both on flavor and portion.

 

Hungry Now has free delivery so that compares well to Lineman that has high by distance delivery fees.

 

I know you're all waiting with baited breath but Lineman has another Sichuan restaurant on Pattaya Tai that I never heard of that I hope to give a try. It should be noted that sometimes Lineman has listings for restaurants that are long closed.

 

Many of the apps have menus only in Thai or Chinese. I've avoided those but finally started looking at a system of doing screenshots and then Google translation for restaurants that I'm motivated enough. For example Shanghai on 3rd road on Lineman.  Does anyone know if its still open?

I eat at Cheap Charlies on a semi regular basis, for that breakfast. It is OK for me, have a small appetite and that fills me OK.

 

Yesterday evening went to Chill Inn soi bukhao after having not been there for a while.

 

I had the chicken shnitzel  with fries. Everyday special at 89 baht, Good enough for me.

Glass of wine 120bt, water 30 bt ( I think )

Food consistent there.

 

Other times I will spend a fair bit more, usually if I want Italian or French food, which are my favourites.

Real fries or frozen? One of my favourite places in Bangkok, just off the Khaosan road, is the best for that kind of thing. I would be happy if I could get something resembling their offer.

I love the woman who runs it. Working hard all day. She deserves her success.

I imagine that the places in Pattaya take shortcuts. Frozen chips not anywhere close to freshly cut potatoes.

Oh darn. I suspected as much. I guess I can save the bother of translating their menu then. Its annoying that apps such as Lineman don't seem to bother to delete closed restaurants.

I typically eat all my meals at home. I'm only in patts for the weekend to attend an function. If I were not staying at the Hilton, I would not have come here for the breakfast. That said, pre-covid I would occasionally enjoy the "themed" brunch promotions at the Hilton that I thought were a fair value for what you got.

In the soi next to Big C on Klang and on Food panda. Very cheap! They also do so called Sichuan mala BBQ even cheaper but I'm guessing its the Thai style mala flavor which is not the same at all as Sichuan.

When I get the time, I would be tempted to try the Vietnam pizza and quite possibly the Sichuan mala BBQ.

I had to google it  as it goes.

 

I also found your post on the Sichuan restaurant interesting for 1 item that you mentioned.

Are any of those likely to be spicy do you know?

I cannot tolerate spicy food.

No, the Chinese pork burger is not spicy.

They also have some non spicy sauces for their noodles there.

 

Thai style mala is chile hot. I like chile hot but once I bought a jar of Thai made mala BBQ sauce and found it vile (also there is no ma).

I would suggest the cumin dominant BBQ sticks at Thai Chin (Chinatown plaza, north Pattaya and Lineman) ... real nice flavor if you like cumin, not chile hot.

Oops.

I just tried a Chinese pork burger from F_u Man Lou and it was indeed spicy. I liked it but they are small more like sliders than burgers so 80 baht for only one is a bit much. The meat was  more mince than patty  You can also find a choice of that type of food at Ippudo Ramen at Pattaya Central mall of all places.

I had a hankering for some filafel, hummus and naan, yogurt cucumber salad, and fried cheese while in Pattaya yesterday.  Headed to Pattaya Rd. 16 where a lot of middle eastern restaurants were located on Google map.  Not a one of them was still in business.  I would have to think that Covid completely shut them down?  It was sorry to see.  Rather than scout out any others I headed back from whence I had come as I had passed a French bakery on the way to the Arab district.  I thought I would give that one a shot.  Turned out to be a splendid choice.

La Baguette French Bakery Cafe & Restaurant on Thappraya Rd. directly next to the lane taking you into the Pattaya Provincial Court.  Much more of a bakery than a restaurant as they only had a few menu items other than sandwiches and salads.

 

 

I had the pleasure of meeting, greeting and eating the largest, flakiest and most beautiful croissant ever.  Stuffed with slightly grilled Virginia ham, gourda cheese, a mayonnaise based sauce, and accompanied by the usual garden veggies.  It was massive in size and would easily demolish any hunger pangs for only 350 baht.

 

 

I washed that down with a delicious 160 baht thick banana Barvarian milkshake served with a stiff paper straw.

 

 

For dessert I ordered the crepe suzette stuffed with a fruit medley of oranges, berries, strawberries and apples soaked with orange sauce and flanked by a dollop of orange sherbet and homemade cream for 280 baht.  The portion size was again overly generous and needed a dinner plate to be laid onto.

 

 

Next time I would ask them to not serve the crepe until after I had eaten the sandwich as the cream did not hold it's shape for long and the sherbet began melting.

This photo does justice in illustrating the enormous and impressive size of these two items.  At the prices asked I consider this to be a steal.

My wife was dead set on some Thai food so she only nibbled on the sandwich.  She is also averse to sweets other than myself . . . surprisingly.  

 

She had only ordered green tea, which I can't describe fully as I didn't look at it on the menu, and accompanied by a pecan cookie.  It was certainly very photogenic.

 

 

The pastries on display where every bit of what you would expect to find in an Austrian Bäckerei.  I highly recommend the place and am somewhat thankful that it's far enough from where I live so that I can't eat there daily.

There is a falafel and hummus place just around the corner from where you were at La Baguette, on Pratamak Soi 6, and is decent.

I think I've mentioned Falafel and Hummus Pratumnak here before. It's quite good. Free deliveries for orders over 200. 

 

They have some items you rarely see in Pattaya even before the great unpleasantness.

Just read many are closed in the Arab area. Isn't there a good one in T21 still open.
