is somebody familiar with the following types?

1. Canon Powershot SX 260 HS

2.Samsung MV 900F

3.Fuji FinePix F 800 EX R

Actually at that price it is rather high end for point-and-shoot use. Do you require pocket size? Do you want long telephoto ability? Could you use a bridge type camera such as Fujifilm FinePix S4300 at one half/third the cost?

pocket size would be nice.tele not very important.bridge type rather not.

Ok I know it is outside your price range, and a few of our knowledgable experts here don't agree with me.......but I have just purchased the Sony RX 100, it can fit in your pocket, it can do anything that a novice would want plus more.

I am still learning with it. It has built in instructions that you can refer to anytime.

Good luck.

Cheers.

I may not be a knowledgeable expert, but I agree with you; by far the best compact camera on the market.

i've got the older version SX240 ... good little camera.

doesn't have the image quality of sony rx100 or canon s100 .. but has a very good zoom and decent image quality.

I had a Sony digital; it lasted just over a year.

do you have a Fine Pix and if so are you satisfied with it

No just Japanese gray market Canon IXY 510is but believe the new bridge cameras make sense for many and for the price (can not see spending for DSLR) for my limited use but find only carry camera for family/wat functions so a bit larger than pocket would be fine and would welcome better low light ability than the Canon offers (my fault perhaps for not using top ISO range to increase shutter speed but even that is limited) but would welcome long telephoto at times. I have had Fuji cameras in the past and my photos were better than now (although Canon is technically better). But going back 50 years had a twin lens reflex and photos were always better than my 35mm images so suspect much has to do with composition and the larger camera allows you to do that better than the smaller cameras which seem designed for candid shooting.
