In an embarrassing revelation, Catholic leaders have been found to be living in a Rome apartment block that houses Europe's largest gay sauna.

You would have done better to quote the original source in The Independent.

More fun at the conclave:-

(from the BBC)

"At one point feminist activists from the Ukrainian Femen group set off flares of pink smoke in the square to highlight what their website calls "the bloody violent history of Christianity" and the group's "determination to combat sexism of religion".

The topless protesters were dragged away by police."

(Their website, by the way, which is hilarious, is called "Witch and Bitch.")

VATICAN CITY—Following the ceremonial rising of the white smoke and pealing of the St. Peter’s Basilica bells earlier this afternoon, black clouds suddenly darkened the Vatican City sky as Catholic Church officials announced that the College of Cardinals had ended their two-day session and selected Pope Insanity MXLV.

The game is finally over!

I am thrilled that a Jesuit has been named Pope. An Argentinian and by all appearances a humble man of service to the brotherhood. Jesuits are especially known for their intellect, commitment to social justice and evangelism through acts not words. I hope he lives long and in good health.

I've been waiting for the white smoke to clear here for me for a decade without success. My sympathies to the other poor buggers.

I've sent PM's to them all inviting them to join me in the Pub.

Oh and JT....he is Argentinian.....how do ya like that then?

Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina elected new pope.

Jingthing doesn't like him already? Maybe it's because Jesuits are direct and pride themselves on defending an argument. No common ground with poitical hackery.

Just

He was ordained to the priesthood

on 13 December 1969, by Archbishop Ramón José Castellano. He attended

the Facultades de Filosofía y Teología de San Miguel (Philosophical and

Theological Faculty of San Miguel),[5] a seminary in San Miguel, Buenos Aires. Bergoglio attained the position of novice master there and became professor of theology.

Impressed with his leadership skills, the Society of Jesus promoted Bergoglio and he served as provincial for Argentina from 1973 to 1979.[6] He was transferred in 1980 to become the rector of the seminary in San Miguel where he had studied. He served in that capacity until 1986. He completed his doctoral dissertation in Germany and returned to his homeland to serve as confessor and spiritual director in Córdoba.

Bergoglio was named Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires in 1992 and was

ordained on 27 June 1992 as Titular Bishop of Auca, with His Eminence, Antonio Cardinal Quarracino,

Archbishop of Buenos Aires, serving as principal consecrator. He went

on to succeed Quarracino as Archbishop of Buenos Aires on 28 February

1998. He was concurrently named ordinary for Eastern Catholics in Argentina, who lacked their own prelate.

Bergoglio succeeded Cardinal Quarracino on 28 February 1998. He was concurrently named ordinary for Eastern Catholics in Argentina, who lacked their own prelate. Pope John Paul II summoned the newly named archbishop to the consistory of 21 February 2001 in Vatican City and elevated Bergoglio with the papal honors of a cardinal. He was named to the Cardinal-Priest of Saint Robert Bellarmino.

After re-checking/referencing he comes out clean.

Unlike Benedict

Though, Jorge's wiki page has been swiftly altered after the conclaves verdict, tonight..

Are you saying the new Pope stands the test of what he is supposed to do?

I will be astonished if he does....and will applaud him if the Jesuit approach works globally.

How can I say that when he's been the Pope about an hour? I only said I thought it was a great choice IMO. A very unexpected choice too as the Jesuits and the Papacy famously do not get along much.

If he hands over all the child rapists anong side those who have helped perpetuate and or cover up said crimes then great! However, I doubt he would have be chosen if he was willing to do the moral thing.

The game is finally over!

I did say it would be a Latin American, but I didn't expect this one. I am surprised at the election of such an old man.... under present circumstances I would have expected them to choose someone much younger. However, let's give the man a chance.... and not tell him what he has to do! I am sure he has a better idea than we do.

What the age of the youngest contender?

Told by whom? By God, perhaps... but I don't think you can wiretap that line.

Doubtless many possible lines of action were discussed in the several days of general congregation, and he will make his own priorities. I am sure the moderators would love to forward him the views of posters on OTB.

He's 76 and apparently has only one working lung.

The smoke and mirrors sideshow will probably be on again in a few years.

Hey, enough already about how old the new Pope is...

He's only 12 years older than me. sad.png

Only one working lung doesn't matter much. My mother only had one for the last forty years of her life, and it didn't slow her down!

With all this gayness floating about.....what you think goes on in the enclave for all this time ?

A little hide n seek me thinks.

A little hide n seek me thinks.

I'm really going to miss the extended live coverage and lead news stories, on every media outlet, about a bunch of old men being locked away in a room praying, and scribbling on ballot papers.wink.png

If I had to listen to one more breathless commentator explaining in detail what enclave means, and the significance of burning rubbish, I would shoot myself, or turn catholic.

It will be good to get back to real news stories, like the genocide in Syria.whistling.gif
