I love 1.2Call,

-call quality is good plus I can make international calls from Thailand to Europe AND ...if needed I can call from Europe to Thailand with 1.2Call. Important= I want to keep my number.

Here my question of a naive simple mobile user, who want to use his new Android for occasional internet use.=

Can I get internet on 1.2Call? And how?

Yes you can give them a call and ask about their internet packages. They range in amount of usage so you need to figure out if you want unlimited or not. If you are using prepaid you need to make sure you have enough credit before signing up

time-based: http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/en/internet-package/

volume-based: http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/en/internet-package/#2

A lot depends on your individual requirements and budget. Generally speaking, a volume-based plan is recommended.

The process is to add value, then subscribe to the desired package, which normally automagically renews each month assuming you have enough value.

FWIW, you can move to another service provider, and keep your number here via the MNP (Mobile Number Portability) process.

Go here https://aiseservice.ais.co.th/eServiceWeb/ and log in using your phone number and the One Time Password they will SMS to you, then you can see the various 3G options.

Click on '777 One Number' to get to your current plan and switch to something else.

Most helpful ! Looks if I simply dial *500* I am getting the 3G service and no other calls are needed, correct?

Yes, you can subscribe to most services, including mobile data, by using the appropriate service code request(s).

It might help if you could tell us the exact make/model of your Android phone, how much data you might use in a 30 day period and any budget.

Assuming your phone supports 900 MHz 3G (and also 2100 MHz 3G), and that you have 3G coverage from AIS, you can subscribe to either a time-based plan, or a volume-based plan. Time-based plans will be speed limited to 384 Kbps, and require vigilance in turning data on/off.

Thanks for asking! My Android is a HTC Desire Z with qwerty, may be 2 yeas old, works perfect! Downloads , I guess one tends to underestimate but heavy work I do only at home. Budget, none ,it costs whatever it costs, ,in essence only text files, emails, online reading a lot, no videos , no games. Here the techn specs http://tiny.cc/47qeww which I don´t understand. Crossy´s link I will activate later. BTW; as a little thank you here my favorite channel TED TALKS ; : I´ve never heard so interesting 20 min speeches on such variety of themes, mind blowing. There is an APPS for saving , in case you are sitting somewhere around and have time for some intellectual inspiration http://technorati.com/technology/article/12-ted-talks-that-every-human/

So I settled for a volume contingent, thanks again for your input.

NOW ; ON MY PARANOIA

What do you do to protect your data? How do you use and NOT use your smartphone over hotspots?

There is so much info on the risks that I am tempted NEVER to use hotspots= paranoia.

(I never would even think of doing banking over wireless, so that concern does not apply)
