Is Israel Really Participating In The Syrian Civil War?

Claims have been made, twice recently, that Israel has targeted Syrian government targets.

If this is true, it marks a further stage in heightening the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is easy to understand Israel's anger at the attempts to supply Hezbollah with weaponry, and also Syria's development of chemical weapons. But anger is a long way from taking action.

Israel will act in their best interest which is motivated by protection of their state. I don't really know enough about the specifics of this current action to determine if this action is really in their best interest, but I'm sure that is the motivation. It's a justifiable motivation for any country.

Israel won't necessarily be right, though I'm sure they're acting in what they consider their best interests.

Asad has to go... but not as a result of Israeli action (not that they're anywhere near that yet).

I'm not sure that Israel wants Assad to go. I have read that the alternative might be even worse for them. The whole situation is a huge mess.

Welcome to geopolitics, Middle Eastern style!

I don't know whether Israel wants Assad to go, but the UK and the US definitely do.

And why? Do the present lunatics in charge of those two asylums understand what they are opening the door to? This is solely a continuous racist war against Arab countries by white imperialist war machines.

We thought we wanted Assad's old man to go too. We thought we had him on the ropes and his removal was a fait accompli. Well, we were wrong and my guess is we're going to wait and wait and wait this time.

The UK has a slaphead foreign minister who has already failed as leader of his party. He has never had a proper job but has been a professional politician since his schooldays. He wants to arm the rebels with modern weapons (as against Assad's Soviet-era weapons) which will mean that Russia, Iran and (maybe) China will upgrade Assad's arsenal. We do not know what the outcome of all that will be - except that various arms manufacturers will increase their profits.

Assad and his Alawite supporters comprise 15% of the Syrian population. The Kurds, Christians Circassian and other minority religions who also support him comprise another 25%. What will happen to them if the Sunni rebels, whether socialist moderates or Al Qaeda fanatic fundamentalists gain power? My guess is that there will be a policy of extermination / genocide and the West will hold up their hands in horror and do nothing.

Then the fundamentalists will believe they are stronger than the decadent West and launch an uncountable number of attacks on us, wherever we may live.
