I'm in the process of buying some aircon units and I notice that many units are still being sold with R22 refrigerant which I thought was being phased out by 2015 - certainly in Europe - and I thought worldwide. Anybody have any further information on this with regards to Thailand.

Don't buy an R-22 AC. 1. Save the planet, 2. its going to be an old design and probably not very efficient and 3. the price of R-22 is only going to increase over time.

No I haven't I just wanted to flag up the issue. I have bought 1 Haier inverter DC which uses R410a for the lounge (I know Haier are a cheapo Chinese and BUT it's for the lounge where noise is not such an issue) For the bedroom where noise is an issue I have bought a Mitsubishi Mr slim inverter which also boasts R410. I would have preferred a Diakin BUT they are looking for a 6000Baht premium over their same unit with R22 - sadly no contest against the Mitsubishi on price

I have couple of Mitsubishi inverters from 5 years ago. how do I know if there are running on R22 or R410 ?

by the way, would the aircon system construct differently ? could a R22 aircon be modified for the R410 ?

Hello EYatBKK

Sorry for the delay in replying I've been away.

Re your question - most manufacturers are suggesting replacement of units BUT they would wouldn't they!

Mitsubishi did claim that it was possible to replace the refrigerant with their own but I can't find the link now

However here is a link which might give you more information.

My view is if you have an R22 unit not to worry for a few years over here BUT if you buy new go for R401A units
