Personally, I prefer Johnny Cash.

Best country in the world, that needs quantifying, right now I have a lot of respect for Nth Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba, doesnt mean to say they are actually the best countries in the world though.

Excuse Me?

The "Nth Korea"?

Where is this Nth Korea anyway?

You've got North, South, and the Nth?

And to what degree?

The 37th, I suppose?

So that's the poll, then: Best Country; Memphis or Nashville.

It could be

If someone would post it.

I am not keen on posting "topics" anymore.

Way too much work and effort

And nothing but vilification in return.

It is thankless work posting topics and polls

Anyone who can read a newspaper knows that the best country in the world is either Denmark or Sweden - I just wouldn't want to live there in Winter or have to finance anything resembling nightlife in either country. No accident that LOS hosts so many from Northern Europe each year. Finland, Norway and Switzerland also feature prominently in many polls, but Denmark/Sweden have more interesting music and women biggrin.png

You ought to ask the Danes what they think about Sweden laugh.png

i was told that swedes are danes in birkenstocks

OP, thanks, it was funny enough to read both Questions and Answers.

I have voted No/No. wai2.gif

Many answers here I really liked...

But they are all completely discarded by the one and only True and Sensible answer - mine!

The best country in the world is the one which has no Farangs! Now, which one is it? biggrin.png

I don't think Thailand is the best country in the world, but it is the best place for me to live, as long as I can afford it.

I don't think that my home country - USA - is the best country in the world, but it has a lot of good points and, generally, it does protect the world from things being worse than they could be.

I would agree with you Ulysses problem I find with the States is that it is getting to be a fear based society and maybe it is a bit regional living in Southern California but being friendly and saying hello to a passerby on a public street is looked at as being strange behavior. When I am in Thailand just going to the 7/11 I smile and greet more strangers then I would in a entire year in the US.

Sure, but is that any different to :

USA - Canada

Australia - NZ

UK - France

etc etc

I get the impression that many people from Denmark-Sweden-Norway speak all three languages (at least the younger generation) - enough to get by in conversation or follow a soap opera - so they cant dislike one another that intensely .... blink.png

I don't think USA - Canada is that kind of Scandinavian relationship. Canadians really are polite and Americans for most don't even notice Canada.

Only in Oz would this be considered 'paradise for men':

http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/blokes-paradise-heaven-thy-name-is-xxxx-island/story-e6frfq80-1226299824835

Having lived in CQ and been out to the reef a few times, I cant think of anything more banal than sitting on that island surrounded by other blokes getting hammered. I copped some flak from someone in another thread on the presumption that I do nothing more in Thailand than parking my carcass on a stool in Soi 4, but even that would hold more interest than flying all the way to Central Queensland to participate in some bizarre recreation of a 1970s 'Bazza McKenzie' fantasy involving fishing, beach cricket and alcoholism. 4 decades of trying to improve our image overseas, and this is the best the meatheads at XXXX (Queenslanders cant spell 'beer', apparently) could come up with - stone the flamin' crows .....

U.S.A. Is the Best place in the World!!!! i spent the best part of my life there even if i didn't have a reliable woman....i do like U.K. too but i find this country a bit too expensive .....sic..

I voted No & No.

I`m living in Thailand but from England.

Not " best " necessarily but I do rate Italy and Switzerland in the spring/summer/ autumn.

Hong Kong also holds a fair bit of appeal, not lived there but visited several times.

...right now I have a lot of respect for Nth Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba...

I can't imagine "respecting" a country solely due to the fact that they are in opposition to a certain country* (apparently regardless of how awful their governments might be)...

That seems rather twisted, frankly speaking.

*Yes, I am making an assumption and I apologize but it seems so obvious and I can't think of any other possible correlation.

This will sound both pompous and implausible but believe it or not (it will make no difference) due to certain oddities of character and interests I read them both the first time around the age of 15 (and a few times since - unfortunately I no longer have hard copies of either but have ebooks of both; Musashi - not Musahasi - made a particularly profound impact on me, in ways that were unanticipated and not what one might typically think of; not least among them being a factor in how I wound up living here).

I'm rather confident in the accuracy of my assumption.

I apologise for the spelling mistake, languages has never been a strong point, much less spelling.

Same same but different.

Engelbert Humperdinck - born Arnold George Dorsey. British singer.

I'm grateful that I can parade my ignorance on the nationality of idols such as Englebert Humperdinck. Are you sure he's not German? There must be some famous singer who's German - a vocal

Honestly - if I hadn't seen him in the Eddie Izzard stand up gig - I would never have known he was British. He's definitely throwing a red herring choosing that as a stage name. (who chooses THAT as a name?)
