I am really looking forward to one day driving from Ubon to Danang. Anything that helps this plan is good news in my book! it will also cut down on my regular road trip to Lak Sao in Laos. Thanks for the info ubonrthai

Here is an English article about it. That's always been a hope of mine too. Hopefully all this ASEAN development will make it possible to take a personal car over there. I don't think there is an actual start date for construction yet. I just read that the funding is available this year. Need to find that newspaper article.

Lion Air is planning to open a route from Don Mueang to Ubon Ratchathani. I haven't seen a date yet and still no news of any airlines opening any routes to anywhere but Bangkok. bah.gif Not counting Kan Air's route to Chiang Mai.

Good to hear more routes coming to Ubon....but to/from Don Muang again?! Would be nice to get a bigger variety. Even to Suvanarbhumi Airport would've been better than Don Muang. Oh well, nothing is official yet, so lets just wait and see.

Do you know how far in they are with planning the Ubon Tower? In your attachment is the number 1 the fixed location..and what do those numbers 2's mean? :)

This is apparently what's happening at Huai Wang Nong Reservoir. I haven't been by there since it was drained last year. Are they working on something like this?

The 2's were possible parking lots. Not sure where they are at in planning. Good thing they can do all these beautification projects but can't get an overpass built over any of the major ring road intersections.

I haven't been there in about 2 months, but remember seeing a bunch of poles set in there. It seemed a bit "confusing", but looking at the picture, it kind of makes sense now.

Maybe thing will change, but hitherto local politicians throughout Thailand favoured non-standard projects. So much easier to hide the graft than standard stuff like roads and bridges, for which there are readily accessible benchmarks.

Sirimongkol, the company building homes behind Home Pro and next to Central officially opened for sales. Apparently a few people are excited about living near Central.

Great photos Ubonrthai. I am not sure if these people are excited about living near Central Mall. More likely they are speculators rushing to "book" a section with no intention of ever building. They will book a section for say 300,000 baht (probably more) and then sell on for 50,000-100,000 baht profit. Those with more money may go the whole way and get the house built and then sell for 500,000-1,000,000 baht profit.

Last year the project was scrapped for some reason and then they decided to continue with it rolleyes.gif .

Supposed to take 3 years to complete. So us who paid top dollar for a waterside residence now have to look at scrub where water used to be. Nobody, business or residential folk were warned of the works. sad.png

According to local news, Sappasit Rd. between Benjama School and Central will be closed for 8 months starting February 7. They are building a new road and bridge.

The closure of this road will create massive traffic jams around Benjama school, the water department, Tha Waan Hin market, Chonlabrataan-Tha bor Road and the u-turn on the ring road opposite Cockpit tyre shop. I am glad I no longer have children to take to Benjama school.

My backroad into town from the ring road opposite the Had Khu Deua turn-off is gonna get found out regrettably.

Talking of closures - I tried to use the 'Second Mun Bridge', the one you would use to get from Warin market (or the Army golf course) to UbonRak Hospital crossing a week ago. The Southern approach road was closed with a temporary barrier. Was that a temporary closure?

There has been an organized public push to relieve the growing traffic congestion. The govt is now considering building tunnels (underpass?) similar to Chiang Mai's ring roads at both the Yaso (dong u pueng) & Amnat (wararom) intersections. You know they must be serious when they pull out the video truck and silk shirts. :)

The other pic is what it could look like. That one is in Pattaya.

Nope, only temporary, just re-surfacing in progress from the Warin Police Station turn-off right through to the "Second Mun Bridge".

If you are approaching on the main drag past the Train Station you can still turn off to the right at the Do-Home lights, past the Warin Land Office and then through the small roads to join the "Second Mun Bridge" road. BUT, work will soon begin on the leg from "Happy House" to the Bridge section.

Work should be completed in 2 months ...... so let's say 3!!!

Here's a drone view of Huai Wang Nong.

They have a Facebook page called "Ubon High Views" that's got some more stuff from the drone around Ubon.

Any truth to the rumor that immigration might move from Phibun to Sirindhorn near Chong Mek in the near future?

I doubt it very much. They might be building a new headquarters for Ubon immigration there but not the office for extension and etc.

I would come closer to believing a rumor that they are moving to here in Ubon city if such a rumor existed.

Yes, that would seem more realistic to me, assuming they do to turn the ubon airport into an international one ( again ). I think they would need immigration there.

At Phibun??

What is wrong with the one that is next to the stairs?

That comment was I respect to the previous post about Ubon airport.

I see they've knocked down the cinema at Nevada Inn, and Ubon International Hotel (former Nevada Hotel) has been painted.

Anyone know more of what's going on? unsure.png

^it will take more than a paint job to save that dump. which is a shame as i remember staying there many times in the early noughties and thinking how nice it was. last stayed there two years ago (only because sunee was full) and the whole place seems to have given up since the sunee opened

Sapphasit International Hospital could be a useful addition if t provides access to all Sapphasit's existing specialisms on a paying basis. The existing two are a bit limited.

Next, the town needs an international school (a proper one, not another pretend one)!
