Grumpy Old Mens Forum

After reading many postings and comments I see being made on this site I wonder why there is not a forum specific for grumpy old men, because ther sure seems to be plenty of that kind about here. Would them being that way be a natural trait or does one get to become that way after being in thaland after any length of time ? I see so much written about how bad thailand and the thai people are. Sure there are scammers theives and other type of criminal elements abound here. But isnt it the same in every other country. Not to mention that a lot of the scams and other crimes taking place in thailand much of it is actually commited by foreigners and not by a thai national. Taking into consideration the total population compared to the amount of crime etc it does seem to be no more or no less than other places.

I like thailand , I chose to come here thailand did not choose me to come. I find that overall the thai people are well behaved with good manners and have a happy outlook on their life which for many is hard and a constant challenge for survival. I read on a posting a while back that the common impression that many expats have is that thai people do not like foreigners all that much, and for that I add my 2 bobs worth,

Little wonder many thais do not have much time for us judging from the way many foreigners behave here and run the country down with every little thing that they cant accept as being that is how thailand is. I better stop now otherwise I may end up being the founding member of the GRUMPY OLD MENS FORUM

I guess the 'Age Difference In Relationships in Thailand' thread has a 'new' challenger!

I think the OP would be happier in the Frumpy Old Women's forum ! ;)

I'm sure their are many happy old men here on TV, but forums are a form of debate and debates always lead to arguments and arguing does not really mean they are unhappy, when they turn the pc off they are probably very happy and return to there life.

Those that are unhappy, regardless of age generally had serious issues at home and moved to Thailand for a fresh start, This is like sweeping the dirt from one corner of your living room to the other corner, your room will still be a mess until you pick it up.

Going on a TV rant daily is not an indication of unhappiness, you can go on a rant here, head to the beach for a relaxing swim and fine food then get laid as most probably do with their ladies.

Then what on earth are you doing here?coffee1.gif

The grumpy ones on that thread are the young things who don't see a future for themselves.

I'm too grumpy for my shirt, too grumpy for my shirt ... yeah, yeah, yeah!

The grumpiness on this forum doesn't mean that the posters are actually grumpy people in real life.

You just see a lot of negativity because this forum is often an outlet for frustrations of long-time expats/thailand residents. These frustrations are natural and often well-founded. Believe it or not I think its actually a good thing that foreigners living here have a place to complain and release frustration. Not having an outlet is much worse. So yes, there is a lot of complaining, but it is natural for people living here as life can be frustrating. There isn't the same impetus to post on the daily positives an expat encounters living in Thailand. To sum up, the grumpiness you read isn't necessarily a reflection of the poster. TV is like a diary for some and thats ok because there is lots to learn from these diary entries.

And I'm too grumpy for Milan, too grumpy for Milan,New York and Japan!

Huh? I thought this IS the forum for grumpy old men?

Clearly you're in the wrong place. Now please get with the program and find some fault with stuff around you, very much including other Farangs, and very much including the word Farang itself, and Farangs who use it, and sentences with too many commas that go on and on, and ones that don't end properly in a period, and

Holy Mackeral....you better grab a glass, and, come and , have a JD,....wif me. No parangs ear.

Reading some of the posts on TVF a more apt name would be the " I'm On Lithium And My Prescriptions Run Out" forum. biggrin.png

I often get the feeling that age is not so much a big factor really.

Most of us love living here if we didnt we would be living somewhere else.

Like Malaysia for example?

I really don't understand people going on about Malaysia?I went there once on a visa run just to see what all the fuss was about and it was dirty, smelly and a beer cost USD $10-15!w00t.gif

Needless to say that was my first and last time in Malaysia!

The grumpiness on this forum doesn't mean that the posters are actually grumpy people in real life.

I would actually argue alot of it isnt just "grumpy" and verges on hate from some very troubled/trapped/disillusioned people.

I recall a post I did on here sometime ago asking a simple question regarding possible providers of food for my wedding. Of the ten of so replies, 8 were just raw abuse of myself and my wife to be - despite the fact no one knows me or anything about me.

It leads me to believe that many on here do indeed just scar this forum to let off steam. It acts as a kind of release valve for them to vent their inner frustration at thier own lives. That frustration possibly stems from the feeling of isolation in a foreign land being sucked dry, to jealousy of people with their life ahead of them. (rather than behind them with nothing but death in a sleepy Thai village to look forward to.)

It is not just here. it is all over social media. I have been running a website and forum, within its own non public, specific genre, for 16 years. thaivisa is not unique by any standards.

So, to all the happy people in the world, stick around, don't go. Don't let the bastards win!

phew , i'm glad that you said that and not me , now i guess all the wasps will come out of their hives and sting both of us. So i better protect my ass and make the point YOU SAID IT NOT ME ,

yes I have been at the sharp point of a couple of comments towards me that has not been all that flattering in content with one particular posting i made on tv. ( between you and me i totally agree with you on most of what you said ) ssshhh w00t.gif but dont tell everyone lets keep that a secret between us . hahaha laugh.png

Most forums on the internet are filled with complaints and irrelevant BS, these forums just focus the two on Thailand

Whilst I agree to a point, on other forums I am a member (mostly sport and one political site) I would not be subject to litany of abusive posts when asking an innocuous question about catering!

Someone could do a post about the weather on here and still likely get a response his wife is a money grabbing whore. (clearly from someone seething about their own mistakes)

TV, IMHO, is at a different level than any other forum I frequent.
