Two Companies, One Work Permit - Minimum Salary Requirements?

Featured Replies

I originally PM'd this to someone, but forgot that you could ask in this forum, which can be pretty reasonable. Any advice is appreciated from whomever!

Here's the story:

I'm employed by Company Y making more than the minimum salary for my nationality. I will soon add Company Z to Company Y's work permit, with Company Y's enthusiastic permission. In such case, which of the following is true:

1) The second company is also required to pay me the full minimum salary for my nationality, meaning that each company would need to pay that amount in full.

2) My total taxpaying salary has to meet/exceed the minimum for my nationality split between however many companies are listed on my work permit.

3) Some other situation, not matching the above, that you will explain

Essentially, the second job is more of a part-time consulting gig that the first company is fine with and it will be performed on site at the second employer, but the second job on its own doesn't meet the monthly salary requirements for my nationality, while both, together, well exceed those requirements.

I cannot find the answer to this anywhere and haven't had any luck with company lawyers so far. Again, all advice is appreciated.

Hi Emilyb

Although the second job is not a new work permit, and is added into your current work permit with the necessary documentation from the second company and a letter of permission from your initial employer, the minimum salary is required for each job and cannot be applied as a cumulative total of both jobs. That is to say; the separate salary from each employer must meet the minimum requirement for your nationality.
