Shingles Vaccine?

Featured Replies

I'm visiting the states and a pharmacy has a sign offering the shingles vaccine for $180. I'm 52 is it recommended?any side effects? Yes I did have chicken pocks when I was a kid.

I would get it myself - it is still not available at any price here in Thailand that I know of. Shingles can be a very painful experience - and pain management is not a strong point in Thai medicine. Although you are still relatively young I would get it as probably age recommendation will be 50 ( approved for people age 50 or older) when price comes down (60 currently recommended). Do Google and check counter indications

I got shingles in Thailand when I was 51, fortunately the doctor knew right away what I had and it was a light invection and dissapeared in about 4 weeks. If I could get a vaccination for a reasonable price I would.

I have had shingles twice once 21 years ago and once a month ago

From this September it will be available free to all 70 year olds in UK

I am not sure if I can have the vaccine as I have had shingles twice but in September I will be asking about it - especially as the vaccine will be widely available and the NHS would have negotiated prices with suppliers

So in short have the injection

Trust us, after having shingles (Herpes zoster) the $180 will be the best money you ever spent, but check around for a better price if you can

I called my insurance company and they told me I was covered without a deductible or copay. I guess it's a no brainer then. I'll get it tomorrow.
