Nakhonratchasima, 14 June 2013, (NNT) -- More than 2.5 tons of marijuana with street value of 50 million baht has been seized in Nakhonratchasima Province.

Police Region 3 and 2, in a joint operation, yesterday apprehended a female Lao national and a male Thai national for possessing several types of processed marijuana.

The two were arrested at the Mekong River bank near Kongjiam District in Ubonratchathani Province while they were unloading the goods from of a boat.

Several other smugglers were able to escape by jumping off the boat and swimming back to Laos. Initial investigation revealed that the marijuana was to be delivered to Bangkok before being taken to the south.

Buddha sticks. Thirty years ago Thailand was famous for them. Now it's all 'ice' and 'speed' and that sort of chemical crap.

i volunteer to burn it all up bit by bit ( need a truckfull smoking papers thou ) but all gets reduced to a pile of grey ashes wink.png

Well, I suppose one will find a lot of drugs in a place known as the Golden Triangle. I'll bet one could also find a lot of oil in the Middle East as well... or a lot of corn in Ohio as well.

What's all the fuss about?

The irony (of all governments) is that much of the drugs that are seized, from marijuana to heroin could in fact be processed and turned into medicines to alleviate the pain and stress of terminal and various other illnesses. There is no better pain medication than diamorphine, it's only called heroin when it's being discussed illegally. Burning and destroying it all, is a wicked, despicable crime.

Wow -- how very well informed. Can I assume that you've seen the documentary "Run From The Cure"?

I'm afraid that this thread will be closed, and I would only appeal to those people who make such decisions to let it run and allow relevant discussion by responsible adults about a substance that is a fact of life and has been unjustly demonized by the powers that be (for insincere reasons).

thats quite a lot, but in some states europe and also some in the usa it is already legalized. when thailand not have this legalized it is their decicion. and smuggling will never be legal........wai2.gif

My hell lads and lassies that's some pile of Stonescheesy.gif

So when they decide to burn this confiscated load I hope people can get notified then we can arrange lots of parties down-wind? cheesy.gif

Nicely rolled spliff. Did one of the coppers do it for the photo op?

Someone commented about yaba and meth. Remember the good old days when this was as bad as it got?

Me neither. Where's my beer? ...

The stock photo looks nothing like the stuff being sold here. You can almost see the trichomes in that pic :-D

a "joint-Operation", is the writer trying to "stick" a pun in there somewhere ? ? ? ? ?

They say Nahkon Ratchasima well when I am in Thailand I live at home with my wife in Loeng Nok Tha, top end of Yasothorn 40 minutes south of Mukdahan. That's a long way past Korat before you even get close to the Maikong. Possibly a Bangkok journalist polite way of saying Issan without using the word?
