I'm ashamed over the David Warner affair.

I like the game to competitive, but I like it also to be played in the 'Spirit of the Game' ... 'The spirit of Cricket' ... sadly Warner was pursuing other spirits.

post-104736-0-69051000-1371253562_thumb.

He's acting and Tweeting like a child.

Shame though, on his day, he's one hell of a Cricketer.

In a phrase from an earlier thread ... Australia have week knees.

Confidence is not oozing from the Australian Cricket supporters.

smokie36 writes ... "As carms is too busy I thought I'd start by saying I will be buying him a beer on his island paradise and cheering on England."

Sound ideal and say hello to him for me ... if he's a mate of yours, I'm sure he's a great bloke.

Cheers ... drunk.gif

Dave Warner is a moron but he can whack a ball a long way, occasionally coming up with the goods in the games that count. His big ego would be better backed up with some more consistent results.

As for the Ashes, two of the big problems for Australia are

  • Australia's lack of in form batsmen and depth of batting talent available
  • Michael Clarke is a divisive Captain

Australia's bowling stocks are okay however and this could be one way of avoiding a 5-0 series defeat. We could also use a decent spinner of any type.

The only decent spinners in Aus at the moment are probably working in a Brothel

Sadly, there maybe an element of truth in what you write,

Fawad-Ahmed-008.jpg

however we do have a class spinner in the wings, he just awaiting a little paperwork to finish.

Sadly, we got bundled out of the Cricket Champion Trophy overnight by SriLanka ... sigh ... ermm.gif

For those who do not know what David48 is referring to...

AUSTRALIA'S chairman of selectors John Inverarity has indicated Pakistan-born leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed could yet be called into the Ashes squad.

The chances of Ahmed, who took one for 25 in six overs on Monday in Australia A's 93-run win over Ireland in Belfast, featuring in the Ashes improved when a bill to amend the Citizenship Act, which will help fast-track his application, passed through Australia's lower house of Parliament earlier this month.

Cricket Australia said that if the bill became law, and Ahmed obtains citizenship and an Australian passport, he will immediately be available for the national side.

Australia currently have only one specialist spinner in their Ashes squad in off-break bowler Nathan Lyon.

I agree. Our fast bowling stocks are quite good and the spinning is probably average at best.

The batting however is the worst I can remember, even during the Packer era.

Twenty/20 doesn't help either as it makes millionaires out of some ordinary players

like Maxwell.

Why would some players "bleed for the cap" when they can play IPL 6 weeks a year

for $500 000?

We're in for a world of pain I think.

Fast tracking a Pakistani immigrant so he can play in THE ASHES, the most prestigious sporting event between England and Australia,.....just about takes the cake, how desperate Australia must be.

The Don must be writhing around right now.

It is a good move really, learnt from England over the past 20 years.

Pakistan has a population of 180 million many of which are Cricket fanatics, whereas Australia has 22 million. I think if we could set up a conveyor belt situation that attracted and fast tracked as many Pakistanis quality spinners as possible it could only boost the Australian team for years to come. They must have a squillion decent tweakers who cannot make the Pakistani National team. We are happy to provide an opportunity for the best they have.

How desperate ... VERY DESPERATE !!!

BUT ... before the Poms go and adopt the high moral ground, may I point your compass to the following ...

Matt Prior, Andrew Strauss, Stuart Meaker and Jade Dernbach born overseas but learnt their trade under the English system.

However ... Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Craig Kieswetter and Eoin Morgan were total imports.

Players representing a country other than the one of their birth is nothing new. 61 cricketers out of the 650 that have played for England were born outside the UK ... whistling.gif

And to think how you lot are quick to make comments about England having players from SA.

Never heard of half of those cricketers mrtoad.

To be fair, we did recruit Andrew Symonds when he was a few months old laugh.png

Still, it's going to be a long summer for Australia

mrtoad ... amen to that

Should we fight and lose ... I'm OK with that.

However, should our highly paid cricketers wimp out, it's, it's, it's un-Australian ... that's what it is.

Clearance time is more of a talent identification camp in future

How about predictions for the series?

I will predict 3-1 in favour of England

I can't see us winning one. Am hoping for a few draws

courtesy of rain 4 - 0.

England is over confident so might think it will come too easily

Shane Warne to return for the Ashes?? Certainly a ratings bonanza.

Now, there is fresh tension after a leading Nine executive told a business lunch in Sydney the network expected to have a greater say not only in scheduling but in team selection. While Nine managing director Jeff Browne said he was aware maintaining players' fitness was of concern to CA management, he made no secret of his view on the implementation of any rotation policy.http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/fresh-tension-as-nine-declares-it-wants-a-say-in-team-selection-20130619-2ojd5.html
